I think each SEC team has to play all of the teams in their division plus two from the other division. And they all play a few out-of-conference teams. Then the division winners have to play each other for the conference championship.

Remember how last year Georgia was very highly ranked at the end of the season in the minds of many writers and coaches but Tennessee ended up in the SEC conference championship game against LSU. You can be a very strong team in the SEC and still not get into the conference championship game if you don't win your division.

I suspect that Georgia might have been capable of beating Ohio State last year.

LSU still has to play both Florida and Georgia and both teams will be out for blood to redeem their reputations after losing a game.

Re: Appalachian State?

Geez, an LSU home game sounds about every NASCAR race I have been to. Lots of RV's and a whole bunch of down home folks that like to party too much!!!!
I imagine that the alcohol comsumption at either event equals out!!!!!! You do get some great ideas on BBQ from tailgaters though. Some of the best BBQ I have ever had comes from the Nascar RV lots, and people just don't care, they give food away!!!

Re: Appalachian State?

Results Are Out Already

Harris Poll
1. Oklahoma
2. LSU
3. Alabama
4. Missouri
5. Texas

Coaches Poll
1. Oklahoma
2. LSU
3. Missouri
4. Alabama
5. Texas

AP Poll
1. Oklahoma
2. Alabama
3. LSU
4. Missouri
5. Texas

The only thing I was right about was that the Coaches would place Alabama lower than the sportswriters. However, I didn't expect the writers to place Alabama second.

This is the first reading of the Harris Poll. It's computerized and doesn't come out until after the fifth week. LSU is second in both the Coaches Poll and the Harris Poll and third in the AP Poll behind Alabama. LSU plays Alabama. One of them will fall in the rankings after that game.

In fact, LSU plays Alabama, Florida and Georgia but I didn't expect Alabama to be ranked ahead of either Florida or Georgia at this point in the season.

LSU has to get by Florida and Georgia before they play Alabama. If they can beat Florida on the road, then they get to play Georgia and Alabama in Baton Rouge. Florida is up next on Oct. 11.

Oklahoma plays Texas on Oct. 11, so one of them will have a loss after that game. If Oklahoma loses to Texas and LSU beats Florida, LSU will be No. 1 and Texas will probably be No. 2.

Re: Appalachian State?

Harris Poll
1. Oklahoma
2. LSU
3. Alabama
4. Missouri
5. Texas

The Harris Poll is exactly the same as last week.

Coaches Poll
1. Oklahoma
2. Missouri
3. LSU
4. Alabama
5. Texas

The Coaches switched Missouri and LSU. LSU was off while Missouri destroyed Nebraska. They pulled Chase Daniel after the third quarter, which is why Missouri didn't score in the fourth quarter. The TD that Nebraska got in the fourth quarter came in the final seconds of the game. Final score 52-17.

AP Poll
1. Oklahoma
2. Alabama
3. Missouri
4. LSU
5. Texas

The sportswriters swapped Missouri and LSU. I agree with putting Missouri ahead of LSU but I don't agree with keeping Alabama in second place. They barely escaped with their lives yesterday against unranked Kentucky. Kentucky was in scoring range late in the fourth quarter when 'Bama intercepted to ice the game. Final score 17-14. They should have dropped 'Bama from second to fourth. That's where the Coaches have them. Harris has them third only because Harris is computer generated and the AP poll is part of the equation.

Texas looked strong against a weak Colorado. Let's see how Texas does next week against Oklahoma in Norman. LSU faces Florida in Gainesville.

I happen to catch that game last night, what a slaughter.
I expected a tough game but it seemed like Gators were in another league altogether.
So, you-know-who couldn't restrain himself, eh?

Yeah, he came on the board at 10:42 PM Saturday my time (11:42 PM his time) just to check this thread. I was watching to see what he was up to. I expected him to do a victory lap but when he didn't, I posted my little entry at 11:17 PM my time but I guess he was already off the board by then.
