Re: Appalachian State?

I see they have LSU ranked #2 in the polls this week. Doesn't USC play Nebraska this weekend? I am gonna be in Fort Knox KY. this next weekend, I hope to have the laptop with me!!! This could get interesting. If I get lucky, the kid will want to watch a little football over the weekend, I don't think he has had access to a TV since the 4th of July, so maybe we can get some quality TV in.
The old boob tube is one of the things he has missed the most since goin into basic training.

Re: Appalachian State?

Yes, USC plays Nebraska next while LSU has Middle Tennessee State. In the latest AP poll, USC is first with 1594 points (40 first place votes) and LSU is second with 1582 points (25 first place votes). That's closer than last week.

Re: Appalachian State?

I am still wondering too....

I can't believe UM lost and the LIE Downs, I mean LIONS won!? Let's see, UM is 0-2, the Lions are 1-0, and the Cubs are in FIRST PLACE? I think it may be the end of days....

Re: Appalachian State?

Did you see where the NFL fined Bill Belichick $500,000 plus another $250,000 fine for the team?

NEW YORK - Bill Belichick should be able to read this signal clearly:

Spy on your opponents, and it will cost you.

The New England coach was fined the NFL maximum of $500,000 Thursday and the Patriots were ordered to pay $250,000 for stealing an opponent's defensive signals.

Commissioner Roger Goodell also ordered the team to give up next year's first-round draft choice if it reaches the playoffs and second- and third-round picks if it doesn't.

The videotaping came to light after a camera was confiscated from Patriots video assistant Matt Estrella while he was on the New York Jets' sideline during New England's 38-14 win last Sunday at Giants Stadium.

However, if you thought that was a stiff fine, get a load of this story:

The FIA have fined the Formula One McLaren team $100 million and stripped of all of their points in the constructors' standings in a fallout from the F1 spy scandal continues.

Team drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso were spared and will keep all of their points in the individual driver's championship.

McLaren, which holds the current drivers' and constructors' standings, was punished by the World Motors Sports Council for allegedly using leaked secret technical documents belonging to F1 rival Ferrari.

Re: Appalachian State?

Ah, Belichek has been caught doing this crap before against the Packers, I think it was last year!!! It is huge tho!!! You think it has something to do with who he is coaching against??? I don't know, half a mil ain't chump change, is it?
The other deal with the F1 has been brewing all year, I think. Those teams in that sport are really wierd, it definitly isn't like Nascar, where teams share info in house, those 2 drivers are lucky they know one anothers names. I think that is why Montoya came over to Nascar this year, although, he hasn't really endeared himself to alot of folks, has he???

Re: Appalachian State?

Remember when Belichick was one of Bill Parcells' assistant coaches for the Jets and then the Jets named him their new head coach, but he decided to resign right after he was made head coach so that he could go to the Patriots as their new head coach? And then the Patriots had to give the Jets, I think, a first round pick or something?

That was a circus.

I don't know much about Formula One other than what I read occasionally. I was really blown away by the size of that fine, $100 million. Just how much is McLaren racing worth?

I do know one NASCAR owner quite well and I've met one of his drivers socially but that was several years ago when I lived in California. I've been to a couple of NASCAR races but it was something I couldn't get out of, not something I really wanted to do.

Re: Appalachian State?

LSU beat Middle Tennessee 44-0 but USC beat Nebraska 49-31, so that will probably keep USC in the No.1 spot.

Did you see how much Barry Bonds' HR#756 ball sold for? $752,467. That 21-yr-old Mets fan who was just passing through SF on his way to Australia is one lucky dude! He and his friend paid $100 each for $12 bleachers seats. Best investment that kid will ever make in his entire life.

I guess the question now is how long the fans and boosters at ND are gonna put up with an 0-3, really pitiful, football team??? I also saw that the starting QB from the first game enrolled at Northern Illinois???

Where is Oklahoma going to stand in this mess, they also crunched somebody yesterday, while Texas was having a heck of a time in their game against Central Fla.

At least the guy paid for his ticket to Australia!!!!

I think the top 5 spots will be unchanged. Cal should move up one or two spots. Last week, Texas was No. 6, Wisconsin was No. 7 and Cal was No. 8. Oklahoma can't go anywhere. They'll still be in No. 3 but more writers will give them first place votes.

P.S. -- It's possible that Florida could move up to No. 4, dropping West Virginia to No. 5.

Re: Appalachian State?

Wow! Florida bumped Oklahoma!

Florida is now third and Oklahoma is fourth. West Virginia is fifth.

Cal moved up to sixth, Texas is seventh, Ohio State is eighth, Wisconsin dropped to ninth and Penn State is tenth.

USC is still first, of course, receiving 46 first place votes and LSU is still second, receiving 19 first place votes. No other teams received any first place votes.

Re: Appalachian State?

USC looked VERY GOOD against Nebraska last night! Also Florida against Tennessee turned into a blood bath.... I sure would hate to be Charlie Weis, Michigan State next, with USC on the Horizon! USC vs ND should ALWAYS be a good game, this year however..... If I were Charlie, I might call in sick!

UM looked pretty good, but I can't take to much stock in this, as ND is the worst team I have seen in years! ND should be thankful that App State is not on their schedule!

Re: Appalachian State?

YES! I am glad to see we played much better. I like the new QB too, he really has potential. I will be glad to see Henne back at some point, but now that I know Mallet can run at least part of the offensive effectively, it makes me feel that much better!

How about Mike Hart? That is one serious tailback, YAC has to be huge, and I have never seen him dropped by an arm tackle.

Next week is NW, so we should be north of .500!!!
