It was a little too scary for me!
I feel sorry for Tebow.

Re: Appalachian State?
I can't believe Tebow is just a sophmore.
Stanford won yesterday with a sophmore backup QB making his first start ever. Tavita Pritchard. That must have been an exciting game to watch, especially the way it was won in the last two minutes. Oh, and Notre Dame finally won a game, beating UCLA. Yesterday was not a good day in LaLa land. LSU has to be careful not to celebrate too much just because they managed to survive last night. If they get too cocky, they could have problems with Kentucky or Auburn. On the other hand, I think they have as good a shot as any team of going all the way this year. P.S. -- Do you ever wonder if all these supertall QBs lately are being given hGH in their teens? Where are all these 6'4" and 6'5" kids coming from? Archie Manning's kids are both 6'5". I'm not sure about Cooper, but Peyton and Eli are both 6'5". I wonder if their daddy sprinkled anything on their Wheaties?

Re: Appalachian State?
Cooper Manning is 6'4". He and Peyton played for Isadore Newman High School at the same time: Sophmore Peyton throwing and senior Cooper receiving. Follow that link for a cute pic of the three Manning brothers as kids.

Re: Appalachian State?
Well, if you went to bed when the score was 24-20, then that means you didn't even see LSU kick the extra point making it 24-21. And then they scored again, making it 28-24 LSU over Florida.
The score was 24-14 at the end of the third quarter. LSU scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Final score 28-24 favor of LSU. It wouldn't have been that scary if LSU hadn't missed those two field goals.

Re: Appalachian State?
No. 10 Oklahoma beat No. 19 Texas by a score of 28-21, so that wasn't an upset.
No. 8 Kentucky was upset by No. 11 South Carolina, 38-23. No. 5 Wisconsin was upset by Illinois, 31-26. No. 12 Georgia was upset by Tennessee, 35-14. And, in the biggest upset since Appalachian State beat Michigan, No. 2 USC was upset by Stanford, 24-23. Stanford played without their starting QB, who is injured. They won with a sophmore, Tavita Pritchard, making his first ever start. Notre Dame finally won a game, defeating UCLA 20-6 in L.A. So now ND is 1-5 instead of 0-6. No. 4 Ohio State beat No. 23 Purdue, 23-7. No. 3 Cal was off. So it looks like LSU remains No. 1, Cal will move up to No. 2 and Ohio State will move up to No.3 I have no idea where they will place USC but it should be in the top 5 in my opinion. And I would place Florida in the top 10 but now that they have two losses, I don't know where they will be placed. I think No. 16 Hawaii is ranked way too low. I would move them up into the top 10. The stupid FoxSports poll has Hawaii ranked No. 45??? The first BCS rankings come out after next week's games. It will be interesting to see where USC and Florida rank, assuming they both win next week. And, assuming LSU goes all the way, they will play for the championship in New Orleans, giving them home field advantage.

Re: Appalachian State?
Wow, another bunch of upsets.
The only one you really never mentioned is that other Florida school, the one nobody is paying any attention to. I think they were ranked #6 last week!!!! |

Re: Appalachian State?
To tell you the truth, I don't know anything about South Florida or Florida Atlantic or Florida International, except that one of my nieces graduated from Florida International last year.
Florida seems to have a lot of schools that they didn't have when I was growing up. P.S. -- South Florida beat Florida Atlantic 35-23 yesterday. Never heard of either of them. Florida's starting to have as many schools as the University of California system. (UC has 10 schools, 214,000 students, 170,000 faculty and staff.) Plus Cal State has 23 schools with 417,000 students.

Re: Appalachian State?
Back to the Stanford win over USC.
It was USC's first home loss in six years! The last USC loss at home was on Sept. 29, 2001, when the were beaten 21-16 by.... Stanford! USC was favored by 41 points! Stanford was coming off a 38-point loss the previous week and they were going with a quarterback who had never started in a college game. Stanford was behind all night (sort of like the LSU-Florida game). They were down 9-0 at the half and 23-14 in the fourth quarter. The winning touchdown came with 49 seconds left in the game and Stanford beat USC by one point. ![]() Tavita Pritchard will probably remember his first college start for the rest of his life! ![]() Mark Bradford makes the winning catch with 49 seconds left in the game. Bradford's father died 10 days ago. He's from L.A., so he had 24 family members at the game rooting for him.

Re: Appalachian State?
I just saw the hilites on ESPN. Some folks may call it lucky, but from what I gathered, USC turned the ball over a bunch....... again!!!! I don't think this football team is as good as THEY think they are. They have some tough games left!!!! They play Cal at Cal, don't they? This may be a year when good ol' USC isn't in the competition for any BCS games. What do you think?

Re: Appalachian State?
Stanford beating USC in L.A. was a real shocker! That was right up there with Appalachian State beating Michigan.
Especially after Stanford lost by 38 points the previous week and their starting quarterback was out with an injury. The official line was USC -41. Reminds me of when Joe Namath's Jets beat the Baltimore Colts 16-9 in the January 1969 Super Bowl (Super Bowl III). The Colts were favored by either 19 or 21 points. The Colts were being touted as "the greatest football team in history." Three days before the game, Namath responded to a heckler with this famous line: "We'll win the game. I guarantee you." After that game, Namath started raking in big bucks from TV commercials. Big bucks for those days.

Re: Appalachian State?
It must be nice to have the boss say nice things about you on the day of a very, very big game. George Steinbrenner just said that if the Yankees don't win three straight from the Indians, Joe Torre is out.
He also said he expects to re-sign Alex Rodriguez. It's a good think Steinbrenner doesn't mind spending money because it's going to cost him a bundle to hold onto A-Rod. Here.

LSU had way too many penalties and blew too many opportunities. They should have closed it out at the end regulation but they didn't. Besides LSU, Cal lost. My other favorite college team, Hawaii, managed to come from behind in the last two minutes of the game in San Jose Friday night to pull out another win on a very wet field. Colt Brennan played but his ankle is still messed up. They're still undefeated but they get no respect because of their division. The Packers lost last week but they managed to hold out today for another win, so now they're off to a 5-1 start. Maybe Brett will finally retire if they do well this season. On the other hand, maybe he won't. He can't make up his mind. He always says he's probably going to retire but then he doesn't. If New England beats Dallas, that will make me feel a lot better. Then I have no idea who I'll root for when the Patriots play the Colts. Probably the Colts. The BCS rankings are out and LSU only dropped to fourth place, so that's not too bad. BCS 1. Ohio State 2. South Florida 3. Boston College 4. LSU 5. Oklahoma 6. South Carolina 7. Kentucky 8. Arizona State 9. West Virginia 10. Oregon 11. Virginia Tech 12. California 13. Kansas 14. USC 15. Florida 18. Hawaii 25. Michigan
