Re: Appalachian State?
Derrick Odom is a stupid idiot!
I can't believe he's posting about this on his public FaceBook page but the LSU student newspaper is quoting him here. I can't copy it because it contains obscene language but it's all in the student paper. Follow the link and read it for yourself. He's threatening to kill someone over this incident. What a moron! Maybe I can copy it here if I get a little creative. Let's give it a try: “Derrick is sayin the fight dont end til u die b!tch,” Odom apparently wrote at 8:02am. Odom updated his page just minutes later with another message. “Derrick is trippin on how these fools try to run up on u behind ya back when they know they cant f--- wit u 1 on 1 but he got something that will shut all that sh!t down,” he wrote at 8:05 a.m. Saturday.

Re: Appalachian State?
From that LSU student newspaper article:
Capt. J.T. Smith of the Baton Rouge Police Department said late Saturday he could not confirm or deny any of the details of the police report. "This is an ongoing investigation," Smith said. "No LSU players have been arrested." Miles will not address the media until his normally-scheduled lunchtime press conference on Monday. P.S. -- This incident happened at 2:00 a.m. Friday, that's 59 hours ago. Looks like they're trying to make it go away. Odom isn't helping any by posting death threats online. They usually manage to sweep these things under the rug. I remember when Perrilloux was caught with a bunch of counterfeit money everyone thought it would end his football career but they got him off. He was just holding it for a friend or something like that and he had no idea it was counterfeit. P.P.S. -- From just two months ago, August 23, 2007: BATON ROUGE - Derrick Odom, a back-up linebacker for LSU has been arrested for simple assault, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and simple criminal damage to property following an incident at 1741 Brightsdie Dr. in Baton Rouge, and is suspended from the team.

Re: Appalachian State?
The Gannett newspaper chain is now reporting on the LSU incident as follows:
BATON ROUGE -- Two of the most legally troubled football players at LSU apparently hang out together. Backup quarterback Ryan Perrilloux and reserve linebacker Derrick Odom were both at the scene of a ruckus at the Varsity music club next to the Chimes restaurant on Highland Road at the LSU gates at closing time early Friday morning. Baton Rouge Police were called to the scene at about 2 a.m. Friday and broke up a fight involving about 20 men at the Varsity, but there were no arrests, according to police spokesman Jeff Smith. "There was an incident," Smith said Saturday night. "It's under investigation. No LSU players have been arrested." Perrilloux and Odom were at the scene, according to their attorney, Nathan Fisher, who has represented each of them in recent months. Perrilloux, 20, was cited by Baton Rouge Police last spring for attempting to enter a downtown gambling casino with false identification that said he was 21. Odom, a redshirt freshman from Jackson, Miss., was arrested twice in recent months on misdemeanor charges -- one for damaging an automobile of a woman and the other for damaging an automobile and the door of a man and threatening the man and his father. Both have remained on the football team after LSU coach Les Miles suspended each of them. LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette said both remained on the team as of Saturday night. Bonnette said Miles would have no comment at this time but will after he has a chance to discuss the situation with his assistant coaches and players. LSU was off Saturday and its coaches were out of town recruiting while many players went home for the weekend. P.S. -- Looks like Odom has a problem with cars? According to the very first blog post that I copied, he allegedly used a gun to bust up at least one bouncer's car in the parking lot at the Varsity and that was supposedly captured on video tape.

Re: Appalachian State?
The Times-Picayune is finally reporting on the Perrilloux, Odom incident at the Varsity.
"No decision of any kind has been made at this point, and we continue to develop information about what happened," Miles said. "Right now, my focus is on Alabama." Incident? What incident?

Re: Appalachian State?
Perrilloux and Odom not practicing today
LSU Head Coach Les Miles says quarterback Ryan Perrilloux and linebacker Derrick Odom will not practice today and the team is preparing as though they will not have them for Saturday's game. He made the statement at the beginning of his regular Monday news conference. He also said he would not answer any questions on the incident until he had a chance to find out more information about what happened. The Baton Rouge police department has still not issued a police report. Perrilloux's attorney said that he received a phone call from Ryan at 2:45 a.m. Friday telling him that he had been "beat up" by the Varsity's bouncers and that he wanted to sue the owners of the club. The attorney said he advised against suing the club. Looks like Perrilloux has his attorney's phone number on speed dial on his cellphone.

Re: Appalachian State?
Baton Rouge PD finally released the police report.
There is no mention of Derrick Odom returning to the club's parking lot around 3 a.m. and busting up a bouncer's car with his handgun but perhaps that happened after the police had already left? In any case, the police have closed the case without taking any action whatsoever. Here is what was written up as a description of the event: INVESTIGATION: Upon arrival, at 0217 hrs., I made contact with the club owner, Brent McClellan, who stated his bouncers were attempting to clear the club when a few subjects refused to leave. The bouncers asked them several times to leave and they refused. The bouncers then tried to shove the subjects out of the bar. The subjects began to resist and a fight broke out between the bouncers and the subjects. The bouncers were able to force the subjects outside. Once outside, the bouncers continued to defend themselves and fight with the subjects. Mr. McClellan stated that several subjects made statements that they would leave, but come back with guns to shoot the staff and the club itself. The police arrived shortly after. I then spoke to Grant McGurdy, the head bouncer/ security guard. Mr. McGurdy stated he was clearing the club at 0200 hrs., as required by city ordinance. Mr. McGurdy stated he came upon a small group of black males. Mr. McGurdy told them it was time for them to leave as the club was shutting down. One of the black males, later identified as Ryan Perrilloux, stated they weren't going anywhere and refused to leave. Mr. McGurdy told them to move on several times, with refusals each time. Finally, Mr. McGurdy, along with several other bouncers, began to shove the subjects out of the club's rear exit. The subjects became combative and a fight ensued between the black males and the bouncers. Once outside the bouncers began to get an advantage over the black males, at which point one of the males began making statements to the effect of getting a gun to shoot the bar and it's workers. The police showed up and began dispersing the crowd. I then spoke to the subject who was the most confrontational inside the bar, Ryan Perrilloux, who stated he and his pregnant girlfriend were being harassed by the security staff inside the club at closing time. Mr. Perrilloux stated the bouncers walked up on he and his girlfriend and started shoving them for no reason. At one point, a bouncer grabbed his girlfriend and held in a bear hug, treating her like a man. This upset Mr. Perrilloux who began trying to fight off the bouncers to protect his girlfriend. Mr. Perrilloux's friends joined in and they also began fighting the bouncers. Mr. Perrilloux stated they were forced out of the club, where it seemed like he and his small group of friends were fighting off approximately 50 people. The police started arriving on scene and they were able to separate and go to their vehicles. Mr. Perrilloux stated no one in his group had any weapons and felt they were being mistreated because of their skin color. I then spoke to Derrick Odom who stated he was in the club when the bouncers approached Mr. Perrilloux and their group. Mr. Odom stated that the bouncers approached Mr. Perrilloux and their group. Mr. Odom stated that the bouncer also shoved him and his pregnant girlfriend. This upset Mr. Odom and he, like Mr. Perrilloux began fighting off the bouncers in an effort to protect themselves and their girlfriends. I spoke to Mr. McClellan again to see if he wished to pursue charges at this time. Mr. McClellan stated he just wanted the subjects off his property, and told they were no longer welcome at the Varsity. I advised Mr. Perrilloux he and his friends were no longer allowed back.

Re: Appalachian State?
Ryan Perrilloux, Derrick Odom incident at the Varsity
The Baton Rouge Police Department has finished their investigation. It looks like that very first blog post that I put up in this thread at the very beginning of this episode was very accurate, including the part about Derrick Odom returning with a gun and busting up cars. LSU’s Odom charged with property damage, Perrilloux not charged By BRPD PRESS RELEASE Published: Oct 31, 2007 Editor’s Note: WBRZ Sports 2 has learned backup quarterback Ryan Perrilloux did not participate in practice Wednesday with the rest of the LSU football team. The Baton Rouge Police Department has concluded its investigation into a series of events and allegations occurring during the early morning hours of Oct. 26 at or around The Varsity, 3353 Highland Road. As a result of that investigation, one individual, Derrick Odom, 19, has been criminally charged. Odom was issued a Misdemeanor Summons today charging him with Simple Criminal Damage to Property. A synopsis of the chronology of events is as follows: INCIDENT ONE: Just after 2 a.m. on the morning of Oct. 26, a large fight occurred at The Varsity involving several individuals, both patrons and employees of the club. The fight appears to have started inside and spilled out onto the back parking lot. Police were called and responded to the scene. At that time several individuals were interviewed. There were conflicting statements about who started the fight. No one reported being injured and no one wished to file a complaint or press charges. The incident was documented but no further action was taken. INCIDENT TWO: A short time later police were dispatched back to The Varsity on a vehicle that was apparently damaged during the fight in the parking lot. A quarter panel on the vehicle was dented. This damage was documented but it was impossible to ascertain who damaged the car or how the damage occurred. INCIDENT THREE: Approximately one hour after the original fight broke up, three black males approached The Varsity on foot. They all appeared to have their faces covered with hoods or bandanas. By then the club was closed and locked, but at least one of the individuals rattled doors and appeared to try to gain entry. One of the individuals also smashed the window of an SUV that was parked near the rear of the club. This act was captured on video by security cameras. Investigators believe, based upon the suspect’s clothing and build, that this individual was Derrick Odom, and he was charged accordingly with Simple Criminal Damage to Property. INCIDENT FOUR: Much later, on the night of Oct. 26, nearly 24 hours after the original fight, an employee of The Varsity reported for the first time to an off-duty officer that he was leaving the Varsity when the original fight was going on when a man he believed to be Ryan Perrilloux ran up and pointed a gun at him and his girlfriend. The man stated he and his girlfriend then ran away and escaped. Upon followup investigation, the victim was unable to identify Ryan Perrilloux in a photo line up. Further, upon reviewing all available footage of the area taken from security cameras and city-installed crime cameras, investigators were unable to locate any visual evidence whatsoever to support this allegation. Finally, upon being subsequently contacted by investigators in an attempt to further clarify his story, the man advised he did not wish to speak to police any further and did not wish to purse the matter. His girlfriend, upon being contacted by investigators, also refused to make a statement or cooperate. The investigation was conducted with the assistance of the LSU Police Department. Pending discovery of any new information or evidence, this investigation has been concluded and no additional arrests are expected. P.S. -- LSU Coach Les Miles announced that Ryan Perrilloux will not play this Saturday in the Alabama game. Miles also said backup linebacker Derrick Odom and walk-on Jeremy Benton have been dismissed from the team. “This incident it appears is winding down,” Miles said. “Our involvement is not to be condoned. There are a number of people at fault here including our guys and their judgment. How that will translate is this. Two guys, Derrick Odom and Jeremy Benton, will no longer be on the team. Ryan Perrilloux will not play in the Alabama game. That’s how it’s shaken out. “Beyond that time, Ryan will be back as we prepare for our remainder of the season. That is how this thing has ended, and I want to go forward from here.”

The cops now have him on video tape busting up a bouncer's car with a gun, just as reported in the very first blog reports on this incident. And in case the video tape evidence isn't sufficient, there is Derrick's own idiotic FaceBook rant above. Note to Derrick: Next time when you round up your posse to go back to the scene wit yo Glock to cap dem mofos, b sure 2 change yo clothes first so de po-lice cant ID ya. And wut ya doin keepin yo baby mama out late like dat? If ya want de kid to win de Heisman when he growd up, ya otta take better care of her.

Re: Appalachian State?
This should be a wakeup call to Perrilloux. This is his third brush with the law this year. He lucked out on the federal counterfeit ring investigation that his brother got him involved in and the attempted entry into a casino using his brother's driver's license wasn't really that big of a deal but if they had nailed him with a gun charge in this nightclub brawl, he might have been gone.

Re: Appalachian State?
Yes, I think he handled it very well. I assume that Jeremy Benton was one of the three masked bruthas who returned to the Varsity around 3 a.m. Derrick Odom was identified easily because he wore the exact same clothes he had on 45 minutes earlier when he was captured on video tape resisting the bouncers. Odom is the one caught on tape busting up a bouncer's SUV with a gun! I think I know who the third guy was, he's an ex-student who was hangin' with Odom and Perrilloux that night.
Look at it this way, Miles didn't lose anything letting those two go and he sent a message. I'm sure he was praying that Perrilloux wouldn't be charged with anything because Perrilloux is supposed to be their future. From all reports, Perrilloux is not all that bright and they need to get somebody to act as his minder. They might want to consider imposing a midnight curfew on him until after he graduates or leaves for the NFL draft. He's constantly mouthing off, which is going to get him in trouble. It will be a miracle if they can keep him out of trouble for another two years. P.S. -- Did you notice that BOTH Perrilloux and Odom have pregnant girlfriends? P.P.S. -- This is at least the third instance in the past few months where Derrick Odom has attacked somebody's car. In the last case, he was pissed at another student and he attacked his car and busted down the front door to his house, which happened to be the boy's father's house. He then threatened both the student and his father. Charges were dropped after the father told police that he would not press charges because "Derrick had apologized" to him and his son. In this Varsity episode, Perrilloux and Odom both refused to leave the club at closing when asked to leave by the bouncers as required by law. That has been backed up by witnesses. After they refused to leave, the bouncers physically pushed them out the door and a fight broke out outside on the parking lot. Perrilloux said he was "beat up" because he's black. He hasn't said anything about refusing to leave when asked. The most generous spin you can put on this would be to say that the bouncers were itching for a fight anyway to show how macho they are. From eye witness reports on blogs, it appears to have been a combination of things starting with Perrilloux and Odom refusing to leave. At that point it appears that the bouncers physically pushed them and their pregnant girlfriends towards the exit. Perrilloux uses the excuse that one of the bouncers put his arms around his pregnant girlfriend in a bear hug and physically moved her towards the door, at which point Perrilloux was forced to defend his girlfriend. Sounds to me like they refused to leave and were physically "bounced." I believe that's why they call them bouncers.

Re: Appalachian State?
Geez, if that doesn't sound just about right!!!!!!
Some team is really gonna have to like this guy if they draft him. Speaking of the NFL, did you hear about Andy Reid and his family? I don't know to much about what is goin on, but that is pretty sad!!! |

Re: Appalachian State?
Yes, I've heard about Andy Reid and his sons for years. The boys claim their parents were unaware of what was going on but the judge said the house was a veritable drugstore. It's obvious from the judge's comments, that he is accusing the parents of being aware of what was going on, even if they didn't approve of it. Reid and his wife have claimed all along that they have been trying to help their sons get off drugs.

From the looks of it, they haven't been doing a real good job. I wonder if he is going to take another leave of absence like he did in training camp. That was this year, wasn't it?

I heard the same thing you said on ESPN radio on the way home from work. In a way, I really wish that this kind of stuff would be kept private!!! It is one thing to have to deal with it, and another thing to have 80 gazillion people trying to either condem or help!!!!

Re: Appalachian State?
The Ohio State-Wisconsin game is not on TV down here so I'm watching Florida demolish Vandy, 35-7 at the half. It's not even close but it's helping Tim Tebow polish his numbers. He won't make the Heisman this year but maybe next year when he will be a junior?
