Re: Appalachian State?
Yeah I have heard of App. State, my sister goes there. It is in Boone, NC in the middle of no where. They were 1-AA champs last year.

Congrats to App. St. Seems kind of strange to me that the question was even asked ![]() . If I am not mistaken, didn't they beat U. of Montana for one of their championships? |

Yes I believe it was last year. I saw a few games there last year and they are really that good.

Re: Appalachian State?
All things aside, at least Div. 1-AA decides a championship the right way, on the field instead of in the newspapers.

Re: Appalachian State?
Never heard of 'em until yesterday.... I don't have words for the way we played, from the highlights it looks like we were CRAP. I didn't watch the game, I had to go paint a house..... I figured the game would be boring, as a blowout. Boy was I WRONG!!!! I wonder how far we will fall, maybe right OUT of the top 25. I'll bet App State could beat 5 big ten teams this year, easy. I think I hear the door closing on the Lloyd Carr era, to conservative of play calling, and easy to read. I don't know who we could get instead, but I think change is coming. |

Re: Appalachian State?
Yeah, I have to agree with you Mike, if he doesn't beat OSU this year, he is gonna be driving his "Carr" out of Michigan. In a way it is too bad, because he is a good coach, and to be judged on the fact that he just can't seem to get by OSU, is wrong. But I have to tell you, his team was so ill prepared for App. St., it definitely reflects on him and his game prep.

Re: Appalachian State?
I like Lloyd Carr as a person, as a coach he does pretty good, and as a mentor I don't think you can set a better example. The bad thing is in College football you don't get any do overs, and a single loss can/will take you out of the national title hope. If we would have been beat by USC or LSU at home, by 2 points then we may not have moved much, and I can live with another top 5 team playing us tight. However App State is NOT another top 5 team, even though they were National Champs last year.
Who do you think would replace him? |

Re: Appalachian State?
Is there a Michigan alum that is coaching in the NFL right now? That is a real good question. You can bet somebody would want to coach a Big Ten power tho, wouldn't you????
This whole BCS thing is so screwed up, and the NCAA is not that far behind. If the national championship wasn't a money driven thing, and with all the bowl games having a say in everything, it isn't gonna get fixed real soon. You guys could run the table from here on out, and still not have a shot because of yesterday's loss, which is BS. |

Re: Appalachian State?
A LOT of people are saying this is THE BIGGEST upset in college football history. I can buy it as a HUGE upset, but not THE biggest. I mean A state IS the National Champ right? Michigan LOST 5 defensive starters to the NFL, that is hard to replace. Don't get me wrong, UM should have handled A State no problem, but it is not as bad a if UM had lost to an 0-12 Div 1 AA team. I mean there a times that I felt bad when we lost to NW, but this is CRAZY!
As for who is going to coach us, I think the best choice is Chris Peterson of Boise State! Lets offer him a JOB TODAY!!!! I am sure we could land someone from a Mid Major and bring him to the Big time. John Gruden would be a fun choice too! Of course I think even Bobby Ross, or Wayne Fonts could have done better! |

If you mean "Chucky," his name is Jon, not John.

Re: Appalachian State?
No, not really. Besides, John Gruden's a hockey player.
![]() "Chucky" is the guy Al Davis wouldn't let out of the last year of his contract. Davis managed to con Tampa Bay into paying him $10 million to release "Chucky" so that he could go to Tampa Bay. "Chucky" got even by beating the Raiders 48-21 in the Super Bowl (January 2003). That was a fun game to watch. People from San Francisco do NOT like Al Davis or the Raiders. We don't like Denise York or her proctologist husband either but that's a different story. ![]()

Re: Appalachian State?
You are right George, you always are.
Mike, maybe they should go after the coach from Appalachian St. Whoever they would go after would have to put with big time college boosters, where I happen to think most of the problems lie anyways. The only guy who really has stayed true to his theories is Joe Paterno, and he will finish coaching in a wheel chair at 95 years old. And he will still have a winning team!!!! |
