Alhambra creek beavers won't be "depredated" after all!
Check out the various YouTube video clips of the Alhambra creek beaver family. ![]() Papa beaver, mama beaver and two baby beavers constructed a dam on Alhambra creek in downtown Martinez, California. The authorities were threatening to "depredate" (official euphemism for "kill") the beavers. Beaver fans, including scores of little kids, nature lovers, commie pinko liberals and assorted other bleeding hearts protested loudly and often, even holding candlelight vigils along the banks of the creek. After receiving hundreds of angry emails, the "authorities" have decided to relocate the beavers instead of "depredating" them. Martinez city officials have promised to reimburse the state Fish and Wildlife department for the cost of relocation. "Ross estimated that it will cost at least $10,000 to trap, study, quarantine and move the beavers. The city will hire a trapper, in conjunction with state wildlife officials and the Lindsay Wildlife Museum of Walnut Creek. Ross said he is perusing dozens of proposals from biologists and is trying to track down a big-time beaver trapper from Colorado to handle the case. "Mayor Rob Schroder said he had received scores of pleas from beaver fans and not one anti-beaver message. "Meanwhile, the City Council decided to move its regular Wednesday night meeting to Alhambra High School to accommodate the expected crush of beaver lovers." Why do they have to fly somebody in from Colorado to trap four beavers? Aren't there any beaver trappers in the Bay Area? You can read the whole story here but be sure to check out the video clips first. This saga has been going on for several months now and school kids in the area were up in arms that the state intended to kill Finally a happy ending, something the Republicans haven't had in a long time. (P.S. -- Don't be confused by that comment. Republicans are an endangered species in the Bay Area. George W. Bush captured a whopping 15% of the vote in San Francisco in both 2000 and 2004. No wonder he refuses to visit. Don't worry, they don't want him to visit.) ![]() P.S. -- BTW, congrats to Kentucky for throwing the bums out. Kentucky is going blue again!
