Check out this 5-1/2 minute video clip: http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/206
It's from a David Gallo presentation in Monterey in March 2007. It includes some amazing shots of octopuses changing shape and coloration to blend in with their background.
Take my word for it, you will like it.

Is it possible for Lucid to download it and view it even though he doesn't have broadband?
I hate to say this but I'm not much more computer literate than John McCain. At least I know what email is and I know how to use the Internet, so I'm ahead of him but maybe that's because I'm 16 months younger.
Ninong
Yeah, he can view it, it will just take him a while to get it!!!!!
I assume he is on dial up, which usually runs at about 56k, a 5 minute video is gonna take him a long time to download it Ninong. I am running at about 10meg, and it was pretty painless.
It is nice to have friends in low places when you work at a phone company.![]()

No easy way about it with dial-up, just have to load the page and wait. Probably take a very long time though.
My Charter cable connection is 5000 kbps (5mb) download and 500 kbps upload. I never download any video files, I just click on them and they play.
I'm so used to my current connection speed that I'm sometimes frustrated at how long it takes to download certain pages. It seems too slow now.
Ninong
Some pages just seem to take longer than others, depending on their content I think????? I just got this speed about 3 weeks ago, I am pretty happy with it. When I go out of town, and have to depend on the wireless that a motel has, that is when it gets frustrating!!!!

Ever hear of priority bandwidth? I was so used to blazing speeds just a couple of weeks ago that I was amazed at how slow everything was loading for me this past week. No faster than 100kb/sec.Originally Posted by Ninong

I was told that at certain times of the day the bandwidth changes and priority goes to the BIG business accounts. I am ready to pull the plug and maybe switch to Verizon Fios. Just need to do some more research.
Kind regards,
Gene.

Test your internet connection speed: here.

Usually my connection speed is just fine, close to what they claim. That is, above 4700 kbps download and above 480 kbps upload. But sometimes, when I find it ridiculously slow, I have checked it and found that the download speed is only 1800 kbps and the upload speed is less than 50 kbps. And it's the slow upload speed that can play havoc with certain sites that you have to interact with.

Speakeasy says 8920 and 720
Centurytel says 10.6 and 762

Centurytel does not tell you what city they are using, I used Seattle with the other one.
The one for centurytel is the speed test we use in the field when we are dealing with our subscribers, if that will tell you anything.;););)

y'all make me sick!
If the site doesn't mention the filesize, you can download it to your harddrive then right-click on the file and choose properties.
Ahem, I wish I could get 56K, that'd be...be...be like broadband! Actual speeds for me are 2kb per second or three download and 1-2kb for uploading. VERY painful. Usually something I really want, I'll put the download link in my download proggie and turn off the screen saver. Then check on it over the next x-many hours.
Eric
Well, I just tested my speed from my wireless laptop, and got:
Download Speed: 4759 kbps (594.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 487 kbps (60.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
So not to bad I suppose!
Lucid, do you have options for broadband, many times you can get DSL for about the same price as dial up now, $9.95/month.
