Hurricane Ike sure screwed our weather up here this year.
We are getting BIG flakes of snow coming in sideways right now. Ground should be white by morning.
It should be in the high 60's to 70's here this time of year here.

You're lucky. I got six to seven inches of snow and lost my power for 14 hours today (Thursday). It started snowing here around 5:30 a.m. and I lost power around 7:30 a.m. It didn't come back on until 9:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday). I'm really glad it finally came back on because my apartment is all electric and it was down to 52 degrees in here. It's 31 degrees outside right now with an overnight low predicted to be 29 degrees. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and 61 degrees. My little BMW still has a good 6" of snow on it. I didn't dare go outside today to clear off the windshied because I didn't want to let any heat out of the apt.
I think New Orleans got about one to two inches of snow but we got anywhere from six to eight inches around here, 55 miles northwest of New Orleans and 40 miles east of Baton Rouge. The snow started melting around 11 a.m. but both local interstates (I-55 and I-12) were closed for several hours because there is no snow-clearing equipment down here. The afternoon temps were probably in the low-40's but there is still a lot of slush on the street outside and it will all turn to ice tonight.

This is our forecast for the weekend:
Hope you guys are OK
...Blizzard Warning in effect from 11 PM this evening to 5 PM MST
Saturday...
The National Weather Service in Missoula has issued a Blizzard
Warning...which is in effect from 11 PM this evening to 5 PM MST
Saturday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.
Snow is expected to develop this afternoon...becoming moderate to
heavy at times overnight. In addition to accumulating snow...cold
air will surge across the Continental Divide creating northeast
winds at 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 40 mph possible. The winds
coupled with the snow and blowing snow will result in blizzard
conditions with visibilities lowering to 1/4 mile...mainly north
of Flathead Lake and along Highway 2 through Badrock Canyon.
Blizzard conditions are expected to last through Saturday
afternoon in the aforementioned areas. Locations from Flathead Lake
south will experience accumulating snow with local white out
conditions possible. However...winds are not expected to be as
strong and thus widespread blizzard conditions are not expected.
Snow will begin to taper off overnight Saturday...though bitterly
cold temperatures and strong gusty winds will continue through the
day Sunday. This combination will result in dangerous wind chills.
Storm total snowfall amounts are expected to be between 15 and 20
inches in higher elevations while valley locations will receive 6
to 8 inches through Sunday.
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions...making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel...have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded...stay with your vehicle.

I dunno, Charlie, it's looking pretty bad. It's only 27 degrees right now!
We only get snow every 20 years or so and when it does snow, everything comes to a screeching halt. Literally. Screeching, as in cars plowing into each other. That's why they have to close all the roads until it melts. They have absolutely no equipment to remove snow. None whatsoever.
Here are a couple of the reports from yesterday:
12/11/2008 1100 amNow they're saying it will get to 54 F today with a low tonight of 34 F, 61 F Saturday with an overnight low of 49 F, 70 F Sunday with an overnight low of 59 F, 74 F Monday with an overnight low of 54 F. That's more like it!
Amite, Tangipahoa Parish.
Snow m8.0 inch, reported by Emergency Mngr.
Eight inches of snow at emergency operations center in
Amite. Power out to 30 percent of Parish with numerous
tree limbs down. Two roofs of businesses collapsed from
weight of snow just east of Amite.

Hammond, Tangipahoa Parish.
Snow e6.0 inch, reported by Fire Dept/Rescue.
Time estimated - delayed report.
I'm closest to that Hammond reading. Hammond is only about five miles away. Amite is about 25 miles away.
I'm waiting for the sun to warm things up a little before I go out to the grocery store. I was caught yesterday morning by surprise when I found my power out. When a hurricane is coming at us, we have at least 24-48 hours warning to make sure the laundry is done and we have groceries on hand. And when you lose power during hurricane season, all you have to deal with is 90-something temps with 80-something humidity. I was without power all day yesterday, from 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. And the outside temperature didn't rise above about 42 degrees at the warmest. By the time my power finally came back on, it was below freezing again outside and getting pretty cold inside.

Yeah, I understand that you guys aren't equipped to handle it when it snows......... who knew?????? Eight inches of snow is just unbelievable down there. I heard that on the news, and I immediately thought, wow, what is George gonna say. Being without power sucks, I got my generator goin yesterday, and made sure the snowblower was in working order. Man, it is gonna get cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of my life has been spent in places where you had the option of driving to the snow if you wanted to see it that bad but I did live in North Texas for four years and Bucks County, PA for three years, so I'm not exactly unused to it. In North Texas we had to deal with ice storms every winter.
Actually, you can't really drive to the snow from Southeast Louisiana unless you're prepared for a long trip, but I could always drive to Tahoe when I lived in SF.

I think the real question here should be, who in their right mind would want to drive to the snow????????????? Heck, it just appears on my doorstep here, and I don't even have to ask for it!!!!!
I know for sure that I am not gonna be looking forward to working on Monday!!!!!

Kids who have never seen snow will start demanding that you take them "to the snow" on weekends so they can make a snowman or slide down a hillside. That was in California. Kids in Louisiana never make such demands because they don't know what snow is.
My two godsons moved from the SF Bay Area to the Sacramento area when they were only 3 and 7 and that was all I heard when I visited them during the wintertime: "Take us to the snow!" The snow line was usually around 3,000 to 4,000 feet, so you only had to drive 40 miles east to hit it.
In the Bay Area, Mt. Tam and Mt. Diablo -- especially Mt. Diablo, since it's almost 4,000 feet -- will get a couple inches of snow every year, especially in the spring, but you don't want to drive up either one of those if there's snow on the road, even with a 4WD.

It's Official: 8" of Snow Here
The National Weather Service has officially registered 8" of snow here yesterday, which is probably an all-time record. They predicted a "chance of snow flurries" and we got 8 inches!
Right now it's clear, brilliant sunshine and 56 degrees, but it feels a lot warmer than that in the sun. A lot warmer. We're supposed to be in the low to mid-70's this weekend.

I hope we get the weather, Sorry Charlie but I have a heated shop to work in Monday. I might have to ride my SnowCat to get there but that would be a good thing![]()

8-10 inches of snow, 20-25 mph. winds and 9 degrees. Just got done blowing the snow off the driveway, heck only took an hour.I don't know if it is done snowing, but I had to get what was there off, it was drifted and packed pretty darn good, definitely not snowball weather.

This I can use to plow snow if it gets to deep, well I'll have to put the blade on it. It might take awile to get it to C.Falls but it could be done. You buy the fuel
