    Super Bowl XLIII...

So NFL fans, who's going to come away with Lombardi's trophy this year?

Cast your predictions here so we can compare it later.

I'm thinking that maybe Arizona can shock the world this year...got to cheer for the underdogs. ;)
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Re: Super Bowl XLIII...

I don't really have any strong feelings one way or the other this year but it would be amazing if Kurt Warner finished out his career with a Super Bowl win -- maybe even another MVP award. He's older than his coach.

P.S. -- I'm kinda, sorta rooting for Arizona because I don't want to see the Steelers move into first place all by themselves in the most Superbowl wins category. Right now they're tied with the 49ers and the Cowboys at five. And the Steelers cheated to get all those wins in the 70's because they were all on steroids.

Yeah, I don't have strong feelings one way or another being a Giants fan.
But yes, Kurt Warner is the main reason I would like to see Cards win this year. I felt like Giants didn't treat Kurt all that well after they drafted Eli, if you know what I mean. But, that's water under the bridge now and I too would love to see him finish his (interesting to say the least) career on the highest note possible.

I don't want to comment on Steelers in the 70's...I got here in 79 and became a football fan in the 1980. I'm sure a whole mess of players were on steroids, from Steelers to Raiders alike... ;)

PS> I don't think many people (meaning players) of that era knew exactly what the fall out of steroids use could be. I remember Al Alceido(sp?) speaking out on it when he was already in the know that his days were numbered, sad story...
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Well....................I have been saddled with rooting for the Cardinals because the wife is a Steeler fan. Personally, I just hope this thing doesn't turn into a blowout. If the Steelers get an early lead, say 10 points, that is gonna force Warner to throw into that secondary, which throughout the season has been proved to be very good. I really think the Steelers are gonna win, but as you folks have suggested, it would be nice to see Warner get himself another ring.

    Re: Super Bowl XLIII...

Yes, I remember Lyle Alzado very well. I lived in the Bay Area then. He was only in his early 40's when he died.

The Steelers were first on steroids, followed by the Raiders and the Cowboys, but the Steelers got a few years jump on the other teams. That was back in the early '70's. Just look at the chins and eye sockets of some of these retired Steelers from the '70's. The bone in the skull just above the eyes will protude slightly and the chins will extend and protude.

You can almost tell just by looking at their chins which players have been on 'roids. They all look like Jay Leno or Monty Stickles. Monty Stickles was only six months younger than me. He died of a heart attack a few years ago. I don't think anybody was on steroids back then when he played. I met him in '68 when he played for the Saints during his last year in the game and their second season. I had season tickets back then but I met him because the company that I worked for provided him with free use of a car. You would be amazed at how little those guys were paid back then. We had deals with Stickles and Dave Parks. I think I already told you about some of those experiences with Stickles in a PM years ago. The guy was not really all that attractive, but boy was he a chick-magnet.

    Re: Super Bowl XLIII...

Yes, that's the name I was trying to remember...Lyle Alzado. I hope people got the message just looking at him during his last days.

Charlie, I agree with you that Steelers defense can probably clamp down on the Cards if they have a good lead(at least couple of scores). The same could be said about other team as well, they did a number on the Eagles and North Carolina looked even worse on offense against them.
Something to think about. I know they didn;t play up to par during regular season but in the playoffs they turned it on a notch, or few...

Anyway, I'm off to my son's house for the game and hope you all have a great time, too. I know I will try my best...

Yes, I remember it, Ninong. I didn't get to see all those old time greats play, they sure deserved better pay. Or at least some sort of pension would be nice for laying the groundwork for all this new "millionares".
    Kind regards,

Yep Gene, that is the wildcard, the Cardinals defense. Have a good one today. It is just me and Lorie, and a big pot of chili, hope I make it to tomorrow.

Take a lot of Reglan, or whatever you have on hand.

My doctor has prescribed 40mg Protonix in the morning and a 10mg Reglan at bedtime. I have had very bad acid reflux disease for years. Yesterday, I went nuts. I don't know why, but I bought some Nathan's beef franks (my favorite) and some of those fairly large Pepperidge Farm "Soft Hoagie Rolls with Sesame Seeds" instead of the regular little bitty hotdog buns. Then, I couldn't help myself, I bought a small can of Hormel chili, no beans.

By the time I got back home and got around to fixing something, it was 7 p.m. I used three hotdogs (split open) on TWO of those large hoagie rolls (1-1/2 hot dogs on each roll). I put them on a large plate so as to catch everything that was about to spill out because I used the entire small can of chili, plus chopped onions and grated cheddar cheese. Usually I just use one hoagie roll with two unsplit hotdogs but then there's no room for chili. If you split the hogdogs open, you can get more chili to stay on, at least until you try holding it in your hands.

I think I finished eating around 7:30 p.m., which is entirely too late for me to be eating anything like that. So I hurried up and took an extra Reglan. Plus the regular bedtime Reglan around midnight. I wasn't taking any chances. I was lucky, no problems. The last time I ate spaghetti that late at night, I wasn't so lucky.

    Re: Super Bowl XLIII...

We have really gone downhill fast here, haven't we. I haven't had the burning heart syndrome in about 6 months, so I don't really think I will have a problem. We usually have some elbow macaroni on hand to mellow the chili out a bit too.
The first time she made this chili, it came out extra hot, the kid loved it, but then again he has a cast iron stomach. I had about 3 bites, and then went to the fridge to find something else!!!!!!

I don't know what posessed Kurt to throw that ball in the coverage, and I can;t believe no one could bring that guy down after the interception..

    Pathetic!

Not a good way to end the half, unless you're a Steelers fan. The Cardinals went from being almost four up to being actually ten down.

Well, we'll see how they come out in the second half, they need to put some points on the board, or the Steelers will!!!!

Well, it was a good game but like you said, Charlie, Cards defense was the wild card and it floped. They couldn't stop Steelers in the last posession and that did it.

The only problems in the game was the refs I thought. Made some terrible calls first half.

    Re: Super Bowl XLIII...

I was sorry for the Cardinals, especially Kurt Warner. He worked so hard for that comeback and you could see that he was feeling on top of the world after they took the lead with less than three minutes to go. Then, a couple of minutes later, he looked like he was about to vomit.

It was another Superbowl with an exciting finish but full of mistakes. I'm glad I wasn't really attached to either team. I would have been miserable for days if I was a true Cardinals fan. I guess I just wanted to see the underdog win one.

Roethlisberger didn't really have a good game at all except for that last drive. It doesn't really matter in the long run. All they want to know is how many rings you have, not how you got them. Kurt Warner had a better game but he came away empty handed.

It was a lot closer than most people expected.
