    Quelle Surprise!

Mark McGwire has finally admitted that he used steroids for more than a decade, including during 1998 when he set a new home run record. He forgot to mention that he also used HGH.
"I wish I had never touched steroids," McGwire said in a statement. "It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era."
Notice that McGwire provides an excuse for his conduct with that part about the "steroid era." He's implying that everyone did it. That's the claim Jose Canseco made in his book. Barry Bonds' girlfriend claims that Bonds started using steroids only after McGwire and Sosa and Caminiti and others did. She said he was jealous that McGwire and Sosa had bulked up on steroids to get the power to hit the ball that far.

I think they're all right. I think steroid use was a lot more widespread than MLB wants to admit. Maybe not as widespread as Canseco claimed in his book but pretty common nonetheless.

Re: Who wants to talk about baseball and steroids? Anybody?

I was so shocked when I heard the news! Almost as shocked as seeing Sarah Palin getting a gig at Fox despite having no practical experience (kinda like the VP nom).
But seriously, McGwire said that he used some form of steroid that was legal in baseball (and the law) but not in any other sport when he was still playing, so in my opinion he's always been known as a steroid user and sackless Selig knew too. MLB wanted the homers because they know their sport is going away. Slowly, but surely, its fading into the distance. Brady Anderson - 40 plus dingers? Yeah, right. And my favorite baseball player of all time - Ryne Sandberg went from between 15 to 25 hr's a year to 40 overnight, say it ain't so Ryne! Everyone knew what was going on. The long term health of MLB has about the same outlook as for anyone else who uses steroids. That's right MLB used steroids. They used them (their results) to promote their product. They used them to put people in the seats and if everyone finds out they were watching a lie, its OK cause they're MLB and they can do whatever the F they want because if you don't like baseball you're a commie. Well it ain't 1960 anymore and there's just too many ways to be entertained then to watch what amounts to Pro wrestling without the bodyslams or the scantily clad "assistants".

Roger Clemens to be indicted has been indicted for perjury!

Reporting from Washington — LA Times

A federal grand jury in Washington indicted former baseball pitching ace Roger Clemens on Thursday for lying to Congress, both in a legal deposition and in open congressional testimony when he repeatedly denied under oath that he ever used anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs.

According to the indictment, which included one count of obstruction of Congress, two counts of perjury and three counts of making false statements, the seven-time Cy Young Award-winner "well knew" that he was attempting to hide the truth from a House oversight committee in 2008 when he said, "Let me be clear. I have never taken steroids or HGH," human growth hormone, another high-performance drug.

If convicted, the onetime pitching star for the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees and Houston Astros faces up to 30 years in prison and a $1.5-million fine.

    P.S. -- I can't stand that guy!
