Jurassic(sp) Park 3
As you may know my brother works at the movie theater so I get to go to all the movies early,
and I saw jurassic park 3 last night, let me say this, I like the first one, hated the second, but what optamistic for the third. The plot at first was good, about how the costa rica government didn't want anybody to go to the island, but when they bring in a boy who somehow survives 8 weeks on the island with atleast 4 diffrent kinds of carnivours, all whome in preastoric times would have killed eachother on site on such a tiny island, it turns south second spinosuor, though real, didn't get that big(I'm not even sure it was a meat eater)it also wouldn't be able to swim. third the raptors somehow got even smarter, and have devoloped a dislike for human meat as they would kill the humans but not eat them. now i guess since lions will kill other predators and not eat them just to get rid of competion, but all was forgiven when the returned the eggs? come on now!!!! I did however like a couple parts of the movie, like when the 2 superpredators faced off on eahcother, ok I like one part ![]() all in all I like it, suprised you didn't I? even though it had its quirks, the fight seens were too good, and the over view of herds of peacefull plant eaters was almost too real I give it 7 out of 10 |

I believe the Spinosauroid in question was supposed to be Suchomimus tenerensis and anything with teeth like that was a carnivore: http://www.enchantedlearning.com/sub...chomimus.shtml

ok I guess I was wrong about the spinosaur being bigger, but the way the teeth are formed, in a fight I beleave Mr. T would have won,
T-rexes are now not thought to be solitary hunters, so it would have been a 1 to 3 fight then again I'm probably being partial to T-rex since its been found in SD, one girl in especially, that somehow migrated to a chicago museum I wonder how that happened ![]() |

Ninong is right, it is not a spinosaur but Suchomimus tenerensis . It is a large predator discoverd only about 3 years ago in africa. It lived in a very warm humid climate that had alot of water present and it fed mostly on fish (can you tell i am a paleontology student?).
I also read that in the locality they found the skeleton they found a croc skull that is 15 feet long or something like that, i just remember it was enormus. And i think the T-rex would have won too, the Suchomimus tenerensis is designed to fish, not take down a t-rex. Ira

Mikeman ~
Here's a tip to get you started with your little project: just enter Tyrannosaurus rex in your browser's search engine and you will get 31,269 hits. That should keep you busy for some time. Here's the first hit: http://encarta.msn.com/find/Concise.asp?ti=01523000 Good luck! Ninong ![]()

I watched the JP3 special (i forgot which channel) and they said that the only full skeleton (sp?) ever found of the "spinosaur" was destroyed during a bombing raid in WWII, so it couldnt have only been discovered 3 years ago.

I believe they were talking about the fossilized skeletal remains discovered in 1915 by Ernst Stromer von Reichenbach that were destroyed when the Allies bombed Munich. In the TV special you watched, they talked about JP-III taking inspiration from the 1998 discovery of a different Spinosauroid, Suchomimus tenerensis . Check out this dinosaur site, it is loaded with lots and lots of interesting stuff: http://www.enchantedlearning.com/sub...nosaurus.shtml Ninong ![]()

growth rate of baby t-rex....Egad. To my knowldege baby t-rex's either havnt been discovered or they are extremly rare. I dont work much with dinosaurs, what i am really interested in are synsapsids and early amphibians. I will ask around at the museam next time i go down there though.

Growth rate of a baby T. rex would depend on if you believe they were cold blooded or warm blooded. Crocs will grow rapidally for the first few years then they slow down quite a bit. For example most gators are killed on commercial farms when they are around 4' long. Any bigger and you start losing money feeding them since food doesn't equate to faster growth any more. Your also talking about a two year old gator. I think about the swans the eggs are sort of close to croc size the cygnets grew to almost full adult size in a year and they start getting sexually active at about two years. A gator would most likely take 5-10 years to start breeding. So the real question is were dino growth rates like crocs or like birds. So you can argue both points. You know Horner VS Bakker.
I really wish I hadn't left it at the vet but some time ago I found a book that was about dinosaurs as pets. It was written and illustrated by a British ethologist. It also proved you didn't need to keep the animals to write a standard "HOW TO KEEP" guide. Two of the things I remember was raptors made jolly pets as long as you didn't have small dogs or children, which they would carry off and eat at their lesuire.Would be T.rex owners were warned sure the three foot chicks are cute, but what will they be like in a years time. This was pre-Jurassic Park I think more around the time of the Bakker warm blooded dino book.
