Talking Stanford at USC. Guess who won? (P.S. - How 'bout dem Colts?!!)

    Holy Crap!!!

    55-21

Stanford destroyed USC and they did it in L.A.

The Cardinal outscored the Trojans 27-0 in the 4th quarter!

    Most Points Ever Against USC

No other team in USC's history (since 1888) has ever scored 55 points against them.

It's the margin of victory that is so surprising. The victory itself is not as surprising this time as Stanford's one-point victory over USC two years ago because two years ago USC was favored by 41 points. This time they were favored by 10-1/2 points.

Okay, so obviously nobody wants to talk about Stanford.

    How 'bout dem Colts?!!!

I honestly didn't think there was any way that Peyton could come back from 17 down against Tom Brady and the Patriots. That seemed like an impossibility but he did it.

I don't know who was more shocked, me or Tom Brady. He had a blank stare on his face at the end of the game.

I like both Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Brady because I followed his career in high school when I lived in the Bay Area and Manning because he's from New Orleans and I knew his daddy back when his daddy played for the then lowly Saints.

If you missed that game Sunday night between the Patriots and the Colts, you missed a really, really good game.

I didn't see USC vs. Stanford game, so I can't comment on that. I did see, however, Peyton;s comeback against Pat's on Sunday.
Bill Belichek;s decision stirred up lots of controversy between the football pundits but I think Pat's just got unlucky with the official's call. His decision didn't surprize me at all because I knew he feared Peyton's ability to comeback in the last drive. I think they did get the first down but thst's just my lowly opinion.
Anyhow, I'm glad Peyton is still undefeated. He's my favorite quarterback, upthere with the likes of Montana.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Re: Stanford at USC. Guess who won? (P.S. - How 'bout dem Colts?!!)

Bill Belichick's decision to go for a fourth and one on his own 31-yd line with less than a minute left in the game is no longer the stupidist call in the history of the world. Les Miles now holds that distinction.

Ole Miss leads LSU by 8 late in the 4th quarter. LSU comes back and scores a TD. Their attempt for a 2-point conversion fails. They now trail by 2 with 1:17 left on the clock.

LSU's on-sides kick attempt is successful. LSU now has the ball on their own 42.

LSU manages to get down within field goal range but Les Miles wastes 17 seconds before calling his last time-out. There is now about 23 seconds left on the clock. LSU's kicker could have easily kicked a field goal but Les Miles didn't send in the field goal team. LSU's kicker can easily kick a field goal for less than 50 yards. With no time-outs left and only 23 seconds left on the clock, he should have sent in his field-goal team, but he didn't.

Les Miles called two or three unsuccessful pass plays in a row. His QB was sacked on one of them. It's now 4th and 26 from the Ole Miss 48 with only 9 seconds left on the clock. LSU completes a pass to the Ole Miss 6-yd line! Les Miles does not immediately send in the field-goal team.

Les Miles looks like he doesn't know what to do. There is only 1 second left on the clock. With only 1 second left on the clock. Les Miles has his QB spike the ball on the Ole Miss 6. What was he thinking?

If he couldn't get the field-goal team on the field in time, then why didn't he run a play to try to score a TD from the Ole Miss 6? Did he really think he could spike the ball in zero seconds? If you run a play, any play, then time has to come off the clock. If there is only one second left on the clock, then that's going to be your last play, barring a defensive penalty.

Why didn't he run a play -- pass or run -- for the end zone from the 6-yard line with one second left on the clock? And don't forget that he wasted 17 seconds earlier before making up his mind to call his last time-out.

Well, it was actually 4th and two and it wasn't the stupidest call at all.

I missed all og the college games today so I can't comment on Wes Miles call, but yeah, from what you describe that was pretty stupid. One second gives you nothing but a field goal, you can;t spike anything but your hat with time this short.

Oh, well... at least this is college game and not a pro where people get paid millions for doing the right thing. ;)

Instead on bemoaning LSU's loss, why don't we man up here and give Mississippi St. some credit????

Re: Stanford at USC. Guess who won? (P.S. - How 'bout dem Colts?!!)

Here's what Les Miles said in a press conference after the game. He said he did call time-out sooner and he thought the official had acknowledged it but several seconds later he realized that the official had not called time-out, so he had to call it again. That's why 17 seconds lapsed.

As for the clock at the end of the game. The sports Web sites are now saying that a review of the tape clearly shows that the clock should have been stopped with 3 seconds left, not one second. If it had been stopped with 3 seconds left, then LSU would have had time to spike the ball on the 6-yard line and win the game with a field goal.

The game was played in Oxford, Mississippi.

So, you are saying that it was a homer call that cost LSU the game? Happens all the time George.

What I'm really saying is that LSU's $3,750,000/year coach looked like he was in a dream world for the last 1:23 of the game. Or, you could go back before that and say that he was asleep when he called the same play twice on the 2-point conversion.

The first attempt for the two-point conversion would have succeeded except for the Ole Miss defender pushing LSU's receiver just before he caught the ball. Pass interference was called and the ball was now placed on the 1.5-yd line. Miles called the exact same play -- a fade pass to the back corner of the end zone -- again. This time there was no interference and the ball was clearly off the mark.

After LSU somehow managed to get down to the Ole Miss 32-yd line with about 23 seconds and no time-outs left in the game, Miles could have sent in the kicker for a 49-yd field goal. This kid makes 50-yd field goals in his sleep. He had already kicked a 50-yarder earlier in the game. Instead Miles called successive pass plays, one for a sack and one completion for a loss, that left him with 3rd and 26! They then completed a hail mary down to the six-yard line with only one second left, according to the home town clockkeeper.

Even with just one second left, once the play starts the game isn't over until after that play ends (barring a penalty on the defense). So if Miles couldn't get his field-goal team on the field in time, then why didn't they at least use that last play to try to score a TD from the six yard line? What made them think they could spike the ball in zero seconds?

It wasn't Mississippi State, it was Ole Miss.

Put your coach and Charlie Weiss in the same jug then, fire 'em both.

Mississippi.........Mississippi St. what is the diff. LSU still lost because their coach can't figure out how to call a time out. Sorry, that is just reality, can't replay it now.

I'm not saying they should fire Les Miles, what I am saying is that his most glaring weakness is an inability to use the clock properly at the end of a game. This is not the first time he has done something like this.

That's like saying Cal and USC San Jose State, what's the difference.

The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and Mississippi State University are two different schools with two different football teams. LSU lost to the Ole Miss Rebels yesterday, not the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

P.S. -- Maybe I should have said it's like saying Cal and San Jose State are the same. At least Cal and USC are both in the University of California system. SJ State is in the California State University system.

    Happy Saintsgiving!

With 10:12 left in the fourth quarter, the Saints are leading the Buccaneers 38-7. I think there's a good chance that the Saints will be 10-0 after this game is over.
