    Re: Rescued from a neighbor

    Robert,

Don't you think it's a little absurd to try to keep one of those as a pet? I'm surprised that Florida hasn't banned them by now considering all the problems they're having with them.

No doubt your neighbors are very happy to have rid themselves of the responsibility of caring for this thing.

What exactly do you intend to feed it? Are you going to breed your own food? Pythons grow very, very fast. You're going to be looking for a way out of this within the next year or so.

    Good luck, I guess.

    Hey Ninong,

I've kept them before, my grandfather had several, I'm well aware of the responsibilty that comes along with keeping and feeding them, I also plan on contacting the Jax. Zoo the first of the week. It has not been cared for enviroment wise, and I couldn't see it living in it's current conditions, the guy had a dsb of masonary sand that smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time.

As far as feeding, I'm going to use frozen medium rats for now, large when the snake gets a little bigger, then rabbits

I would really be surprised if the Jacksonville Zoo is interested. There are thousands of these in the Everglades, so I'm sure they have already accepted as many as they can accomodate.

Cool facts about Burmese pythons for anyone else thinking of keeping one.

I don't want some 14-year-old looking at the cool pics and deciding they have to have one.

The Jax Zoo currently has only 2 pythons, a rock python(mines bigger relative)and a ball python.

The ones they are pulling out of the glades are being trapped and then euthanized, they are not rehoming any that I'm aware of to the zoos

Yes, that was my point. If the Jacksonville Zoo wanted one, they would have gotten one from the Florida Highway Patrol by now.

Let us know what they tell you. I have a suspicion they aren't interested. This is going to be like trying to get a public aquarium to take a nurse shark.

If he gets too big you could always eat him before he eats you.
