good luck with school jon, dont be a stranger.somehow i dont think you will be though.
i am so anti-napster,i would never "steal "music like that.im not even the most moral/ethical guy,i just have alot of respect for artists publishing rights.this is their lifes work, and they deserve to be compensted for it .do you work for free? my.02

see i use the napster idea in the way it was intended....i listen to it when it peaks my interest and seriously i have 99% of the cd's which i have on my downloaded music file. i dont bearn cd's i listen to the song on my computer and that makes me feel more apt to going out and buying the cd.

I hate buying cd's, yeah your get 3 good songs, but the rest are mediocre at best! dont get me wrong, the new slipknot cd is on my wishlist. most of the songs I download are old, so the artist really doesnt get money from them any more... BTW, a really good one (i dont know if it works with mac) is called WinMX give it a try!

fishkid, even though the songs are old, they are still available in stores, right?so they are still making money of it.
i agree about the sad state of music(and film),but there is no excuse for taking food out of someones mouth.
sure youre not hurtin(they arent starving),lets say metallica, they are already stinkin rich.what about the smaller name artists, even lets say youre on hit wonder, those guys are struggling to be able to provide you with the music you like, and then you just take it.
an example that comes to mind is alien ant farm.they have a single out right now,the cover of smooth criminal.they may never have another hit again, and this is one of the most downloaded songs currently.who knows how much money they are losing.

personally I like napster like programs, you have a point with one hit wonders, but you really think they won't get a couple million from it anyway?

I beleave the majority of songs downloaded are from the big named stars

The Grateful Dead used to set up a section in the audience where you could tape the concert, and they actively facilitated trading of "bootlegged" tapes, and last time I checked they didn't wind up going broke.

But that might have also had something to do with the fact that if you bought a grateful dead CD all of it was good, not just one or two songs.

You should get OS X. It is a vast improvement over OS 9, 8, 7, ... It is a work of art and a pleasure to use. Being a Unix geek to begin with, I really appreciate what they have done (or are doing, as it is a work in progress).

wg, yes some artists are very cool that way.i was at a dave mathews concert and security tried to throw a guy out for recording the show, and dave stopped the show and told the guard to give him back his recorder and leave him alone .but both those bands are giving permission to record their stuff, big difference.

I love the micro society that evolved from this band...it's subtle little"'side economies"..etc.
But Dear God! Listening to those guys trip and stumble through a scale run was @!$%# torture. The ultimate in "I meant to do that"...

You'd have to be high to think...uhhh nevermind.

Well, the thing about their music is it is much better than it sounds.
