Prepare to enter the sea of uselessness.

Interesting story for your all; if your interested in reading about stupid human behavior.

I know this guy who has wanted to setup a marine tank since he saw mine several months ago. Not that it matters much, but he also works at a LFS, and manages to find great deals on tanks and setups.

The other day I hear from him. He says he's just come from the beach. I ask him why, he tells me it was to "collect some live rock."

Now, this wouldn't be too weird, except I live in Washington state, where the average temperature of our sea water is 38-42 degrees.

Finally I get him to explain, he's managed to go down to the beach, recover in a bucket; a few anemones, some "sea pens", sand, a couple of shrimp, and a rock-fish. He's put these all in an aquarium and is telling me that they will "learn to adapt."

He never even cycled the tank.

What amazes me the most, is not only is he an employee at a LFS, but he's a manager of the fish department, and he's giving people advice on a daily basis on how to run marine/freshwater aquariums.

I tried telling him that not only do anemones generally die of when put in capitivity under IDEAL conditions, but that his are certaintly going to die. He assures me that they are going to adapt and flurish; because the former manager of the LFS he works at said so.

Now. I'm wondering, how do the people in LFS get to missinformed? Do none of them read the books that even their stores carry? Or am I uninformed and uneducated about magical cold-water anemones that can adapt to any water?

Anyway, no real point in this message, I just figured one of you may enjoy reading just how dumb some people can be.

It's Not Just LFS's

Try to explain the difference between a Winmodem and a hardware modem to a "computer expert" at Best Buy!

Or get a straight answer about RAM applications at Best Buy.

"I think that'll fit in a laptop, just snap it in place with a pair of pliers."

I was at Best Buy one time shopping for something. Can't remember what. The salesperson I was dealing with told me he was a 'computer god'. Needless to say, I didn't buy anything from him or ask him many questions. Wanted to get rid of him as fast as I could.
It is amazing how many LFS employees/managers tell their customers to cycle their tanks with a damsel or clown because they are hardy fish. That really irritates me.

I was recently at an LFs the listening in the owner with a newbie.. She had a 20gallon been setup for a week, already lost a few damsels..I believe she said she had 5 in there..She wanted to buy some sebae clowns..She asked the owner"how many of those fish can i put in my tank" owner replies"6 or 7 shouldn't be a problem"
now of course the tank wasn't cycles he told her to wait one week then she can put them in.. these were all medium to large sebae clowns.. Of course you shouldn't put more than 2 together to being with.. Man i left in disgust..What a useless palce..I gave th owner a dirty look ont he way out then the next time I went in there and was questioning the owners wife..She actually pretty much know whats shes talkign about and she even said her husband was an idiot..
