The Chicago area is pretty big. Where exactly are you moving? Maybe I can suggest something. Bob
I think we are gonna be west or north west of town. While i was out home shopping towards Schaumberg I saw a store think it was calledBeyone the Reef . Stopped there to check it out. Very Very nice store, nice selection of fish, could use a little more corals, prices for the fish were nice but I I thought the coral prices were a little steep. ( the corals where all sold has whole, they had no frags at all. ) I dont plan to goto a store and drop 70-80 bucks each time. Hope this will help.
Thanks,

Shog,
Yes, most lfs in the Chicago are pretty steep when it comes to pricing. I'm South of the city and don't get up north very often. One place I have heard about in Schaumburg is Advanced Aquatics 879 s. Roselle Rd.). Used to be mail order only now they have a store. Got a thumbs up from a friend.
Living Sea near O'hare Airport (811 w. Devon, Park Ridge Il) is excellent for fish but pricey.
Rods Reef is not THAT far away in Dekalb (Hometown of Cindy Crawford;) Middle of nowhere. Cornfields. ) Maybe an hour or so drive.
I'm sure some north siders will chime in.

Hey shog....well im from around the same area as you but im like 2hrs from where u'll be. There arent any really good ones in that area as far as price is concerned. Living sea has nice stuff but again fulllll price. Same goes for beyond the reef. there is a store in naperville, petland, that sells frags. nothing spectacular usually but i got a birdsnest for 20 bucks just a 2in frag. but thats about my price range. when you moving in?
Well, if you are looking at the cost, then there is a store in fox lake that sell all soft corals for $35.00 a piece and acros are 45.00 and up. He is very reasonable on his fish prices. It is called Something Fishy. Usually, that is the only place that we go. Advanced Aquatics is nice but don't expect to leave with a cheap coral. Living Sea, hmmm probably the most expensive place around. nuf said. Now as far as sps corals, the place that we think has the best selection is called a Splash of Life in Elburn. Now it was a bit of a haul for us but the corals are Awesome. Resonable prices. We got a blue tip a little smaller than a baseball for $60.00. They also have tons of different frags. I will attach a couple pics of the corals from A Spash of Life.
Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll put it in his aquarium!
Thanks, Dennis and Andrea
Do what? What the heck does that mean? You are a Okie and now live about 2 hours from Schaumberg? You got me all messed up now. LOL! I lived in Schaumberg back in 01-03. Chicago was not for me so I accepted another job back in Tulsa,OK (my home town). Have lived here since April 03.Originally Posted by fishguy_8
