7' Black Tip Reef Shark.....
A 7' Black Tip Reef Shark was responsible for closing down one of the beaches in Honolulu (sp?) There were some photos of the shark taken from a news helicopter, looked pretty neat!
All I could think was...man, I wonder if that would fit in my 155 bow front ![]()

Firefish, the fish is 7 feet long and your tank is 6 feet long. Would fit, but you would have to cut it's head off.

It's interesting that they closed the beach over 3 reef sharks. Not that I'm a shark expert over veteran diver(by any stretch of the imagination) but we saw reef sharks "up close and personal" during our vacation quite often. They never paid us any attention. If I'm correct, they're typically non-aggressive toward humans. Tigers, Bulls, Makos, etc are more of a threat I believe. I could be wrong though.

This is the species offered for sale, pups are about 2' long. The pups can be common in shallow water. I one time saw film of a collector using his dog to chase down the young sharks in shallow water. According to John Hoover, the old timers said sharks were common underwater sight in the past, but no more. The ironic thing is the black tips off waikiki might be the result of increased protection of marine life in the area. When I was in hawaii I remember reading some where, that the waikiki aquarium determined that fishing for a "killer tiger shark" was useless, since they have such a large range. After an attack the culprit might be 50 miles away and any sharks caught by the attack site might be innocent
Black tips aren't maneaters, but they do bite on occasion. So I guess you don't want to go to the fl. keys where you might see the "dreaded" nurse shark. I 've caught quite a few bonnet sharks while fishing off bridges there. Never seen a "real" shark while snorkling, although someone I was with said there was one nearby.
