Unhappy Reefland's status? Sincere worry...

Hi everyone. I was just catching up on the weeks posts since I barely can ever get into Reefland (like everyone else since the server problem) and I read where the store has closed. I feel very sad that this has happened and I can totally understand why Scott had to make that decision since his other obligations have taken the time away. I just wanted to go out on a limb and say that I hope that Reefland REMAINS around (hopefully with a much faster server ) and we can all remain here to post and share and help. I think it was organicreefer who said that since the server problems began he realized how addicted he is to Reefland. I have to agree that this site IS addicting since it is so helpful and so many good people are here. I hope whatever problems exist that we will not lose something that we all seem to hold dear. In any case, before I start getting more sentimental or something, I want to thank Scoot for all that he DOES do and know how much time it must take up to offer such a site.

Joanne

Yea, just take 1 dose of REEFLAND every 3 to 4 hours or when the pain is to much.

Unhappy

This is like the first time in a month I have been able to load a page to read it here. I hope this was just a glitch and not the worm or something bad...

Send a message via ICQ to saltjunkie
I have emailed easyspace and in not so soft terms to fix the speed problem immediatly. There is no excuse for the slow system and I for one will not tolerate it. We pay the money to have it hosted and we pay on time as expected, and I expect my sight to run right!.
Now that I am back online, I will keep you guys posted.
And for those that read this, Scott Z is pretty tied up right now, so any inquires or questions can be directed towards me at rick@reefland.com
Talk to you guys later! And thanks for the support!
Rick

Hi Joanne and all!

So let me give you the run down on things.

As most of you know, the BB has been around much longer than the store, and as you can see, will continue to remain. The store was opened because we had access to a product everyone searched for, and our time (the 3 partners that own Reefland) allowed us to operate that store.

When our second child was born, I took time off from work which enabled me to dedicate all of my time to the store. burch and saltjunkie had jobs and worked every possible hour they had to get orders processed. In August, I was offered a job with Amazon.com that I accepted knowing that it could impair the operations of Reefland. We continued to try and run it during our limited time but was unable to meet the customer demand, and a few days ago decided to close the virtual doors. Knowing the level of service that is deserved from our reefing friends, we pain-stakenly (sp.?) decided that it should be left to those that can provide that level of service.

Now, none of us has given up the hobby we love, and have no plans to. Our passion still matches yours and our dedication to our friends on this BB remains, and will for a long time to come. The speed reduction happened at a bad time, perhaps giving the impression that the store closed and the site was going to close too. Again, not the case. Below is a portion of an e-mail I receved this morning from the host, who we have been attempting to contact since the slow down.

You may have experienced slower response times from your MySQL database service over the last week. Our technicians have been fully aware of this decrease in performance and have been attempting to narrow down the causes, it is possible that this problem may be caused by a handful of databases being misused, but unfortunately MySQL database software cannot report the information required to determine this.

Upgrades on this service are planned as well as a user resource allocation system so normal users of the service will not be affected by abusers. Upgrades will be made within the next 14 days and will result in the minimum of downtime. We will try to provide further details in due course.

The host has taken some steps already to get our speed back up to par, as you probably have noticed. If this reduction of speed becomes a repetitive event, the host is fully aware that we will take our business elsewhere.

So for the record, with the continued efforts and support from the Moderators and Members of Reefland, we are here for the duration. Though my time is more restricted now, we can always be reached at:
scott@reefland.com
rick@reefland.com &
david@reefland.com

Regards,
Scott Z.

Sorry to hear that you had to close the store but I understand totally. Your family and job have to come first. Glad to hear that Reefland will still be around! Good luck with the new job. Bob

Smile Whew!

Thanks Scott, Rick, and David for keeping us posted and continuing this wonderful board. It's totally understandable to close the store in light of everything going on in your life Scott. And I know we here all appreciate your response and effort to allow us this valuable source of info. Thanks again!!!!!!!

Joanne
