Question Christmas Real/Fake tree?

What type of Christmas tree do you put up for Christmas? please describe known attribute like what species, size, price, where it came from, what date you usually put it up on. How long it keeps its scent, what kind of scent it has, if you put up a "Fake" plastic or other construction please describe it as well, needle retention durability. IMO the Frasier Fir is the best tree all around, for scent, needle ret., thickness, shape, etc. I try to set my tree up around Dec.1st but come from a family that usually did it Thanksgiving Day. For a 7-8' Frasier Fir I usually pay $50-$60 course i pick out he nicest one :P

Hi there! I couldn't answer the poll question because every year we get a different kind of live tree. Actually, we get two. We get an actual live tree to plant in our backyard. Always a different type of pine or fir tree and then we get a real cut tree. I don't think we've got the same kind twice! Last year I believe we had a Douglas. I like the softer needle trees a little better since I'm allergic to the needles. But as long as there aren't squirrels residing in them, any one is fine with me! We've paid anywhere from $6 bux (what a deal that year was) to $40 for a cut tree. Our live trees have always cost at least $70-100.

It's not even Thanksgiving yet!!

Mine and Paljets tree is fake..thje first year we've had it up, we bought it at an after Christmas sale for 75 percent off, it was an over 200 dollar 9 ft tree. We have it up now, because we just moved in and had nowhere else to put it at the time. So far we like it, we were skeptical of a fake tree because we wanted it to look full, but it really is a beautiful tree. Our complaint with real trees is duration of life, disposal and having to water the damn thing. We tried that little IV thing on our real tree last year, but a sap plug formed around it and the tree dried up and died. Also when we went to take the tree out, the stand tipped over and sappy water spilled everywhere and sap stains..... then there's the pine needle issue and actually getting it outside. But then again, we've never been ones to do anything small our trees have always been at least 9 ft tall and like 5 feet at the base. Just as a side note, if you have a real tree, beware of a red tree skirt when you water it.... we spilled water on a red tree skirt and got a permanent pink ring on the carpet. Red dye does not come out....kinda like sap. We generally try to put a tree up the day after Thanksgiving, but we love a long Christmas, and for the first year in my life this one will be white.

Well I will stop rambling now that I've put in plenty more than my 2 cents...

The Frasier fir is the Cadillac of Christmas trees. We have had one for the past 14 years and would not consider another species. Ours goes up the weekend after thanksgiving and normally does not come down until mid January. Retains it's magnificent scent, drinks water daily and when we finally do take it down, we at most, pick up a dust pan full of nettles, and that's after being up for over 6 weeks. The two tone nettles are attractive and they remain soft for the duration. We have since turned sevral of our friends on to Frasiers and they too will not buy anything else. Great thread by the way! Makes me look forward to picking out our tree! JWT

Well, mines usually green, with some purple garland around it.... Does that help?

Its fake, and a major pain to put together (11 feet tall) Better than lugging a dieing tree through a door half its width, dropping every pine needle on the floor, then the long drive to the compost heap!

i prefer real but the wife likes those fake trees. Course last year our tree was up for a whole 2 weeks when she decided to buy my a 90 gallon tank and the only spot where it could go in the dining room is where we had our tree (nice trade off i guess)

When I was a kid my dad and my brothers and I would go tree "shopping" trying to find the tallest REAL tree so we could come home and cut half of it off so it would fit in the living room.

One day I will convince my wife to go for the real trees.....one day..

My wife and I have borrowed a fake tree from my in-laws for the two years that we have been married. It is about 30 years old, and makes Charlie Brown's Christmas tree look nice and full. We only had to use half as many lights because the ones on the back side shined through to the front. This year we will be buying our own fake tree. I love the real trees but the fire hazard has always concerned me. If you have ever seen what happens when you hold a match near a semi dry pine tree you will know what I am talking about.

I put a tree in almost every room in the house from a two foot fake decorated with ginger bread men in the kichen to a 9 ft real in the familyroom each tree is decorated in a different theme. We always have at least 2 real trees usually the family room and the teen / game room. The livingroom, diningroom, and kitchen are usually fake and go up right after Thanksgiving- as well as any of the trees in the kids bedrooms but thats up to them. The live trees usually go up about a 10 days before Christmas and stay up until Jan. 6 the feast of the Three Kings. I guess you can say I get a little cared away with Christmas trees.

Thumbs up

Real tree for me please. The smell of a real tree is a big part of the Christmass atmosphere/spirit for me and mine.

We only get real trees, from a huge tree farm up in the blue ridge mountains. We drive up the weekend after thanksgiving to tag it and then come back to get it a week or 2 later. I dont think I could ever have a fake tree, I love the smell and the look of a good old fashioned Christmas tree.
