SD,
No on the bud fixing the machine. No hardware was broken...(just my pride) I use Ghost, which allows me to create an image of my machine. When something goes wrong I restore the machine using the last known good image. I use Zone Alarm by the way. Justler, FreeBSD! Hell Yeah! GregD, Nail on the head. later,

What do you use for your Zonealarm settings??
seems pretty easy but not sure what are the best settings for performance and security. Thanks

Shroacat: Give Snort a whirl... it's a network/machine IDS system, pretty nice, uses Mysql database and an ACID front end for web viewing of reports etc... it also can e-mail you when something has been attacked. http://www.snort.org I also like ntop which is in ports... I think it's /usr/ports/ntop something or other... give that a try.
