X-Box

Anyone got it yet? I'm getting 2 systems for my boys this weekend. Looks like an excellent gaming platform.

very interested in it myself. I have a playstation, N64, and Dreamcast collecting dust at my place so I may sell them and use the money for the X-BOX. The football game with Peyton Manning on the cover (NFL Fever??) looks outstanding. Launching with plenty of titles too. I hear it is very programmer friendly.

waiting...just a bit.

None of the initial release games jumped out at me.
My PS2 doesn't even have dust on it yet!

Yeah, for a graming platform they look excellent. They are using the Intel P3 733 chip (which really is one of the best intel made) and a Nvidia Video chip that is closely related to the new Geforce 3. As well as a harddrive for storage (like why wasn't that done sooner on a game platform).

I just am having a hard time justifying to the wife spending the money on that when I just upgraded my 'puter to a P4, with new Mother board and memory, and should be able to play anything at lightspeed. Plus I think she likes the idea of me locked off in the home office playing games/surfing etc, rather than gaming on the big screen.

I too am a nintendo fan and am getting the game cube. Cant seem to justify the 500 bucks for the x-box. For what I have seen the graphics on the x-box didnt impress me enough to pay 300 more for it.

A friend of mine who works at TrU gave me a game cube demo 3 1/2" cd for my p/c. He told me the disk size is gonna be the same for the console. Can't wait.

Bojinx,

Does the Xbox ship with 2 controllers?
Or come bundled with a game?
I wouldn't think it needed memory...

Even that would only add 100.00

The PS2 hit me up for some extra change on the way out the door...
still need the DVD remote.

Does the gamecube play DVD media?
I didn't see it indicated on their site...that would be bad.

The GC is a propietory system and will not support DVD media. I was told by a guy at TrU that the XB is gonna cost around 399-499 to have everything you need to play and that the GC would be around 199. Guess we will see if he was right or not.

True, you will have to add about 100 bucks (extra controller, game) to the purchase price of an X-box to get a more realistic price, but the same applies to the Gamecube or PS2. Sure $199 will buy you a Gamecube, but by the time you add a controller (or three), game(s), and memory unit(s) you can more than double your initial purchase price.

Personally, I'll stick with my PS2 until one of the other systems can bring some real meat to the table (i.e. must-have-games.) Metroid and Zelda for the 'Cube should fit the bill. As should Project Ego for X-box.

Well, my best friend got an X box this weekend and he is extremely happy. His parents were so excited that they found one that they just gave it to him instead of waiting till Christmas. The game he got is called HALO and is really awesome. Its like a futuristic shoot em up game, really neat.

Well after much debate my 14yr old opted for Gamecube and my 16yr old held fast to Xbox. So...we have both platforms. For those of you interested, I'll provide an update regarding pros/cons on both by this weekend. I miss my boys...I never see them anymore

XBOX is cool although..
I have a very good friend that designs games for EASports.. According to him the XBOX will overheat causing a possible problem.. Also he said it seems to have a problem with wiping the hard drive whatever that means..

bamm bamm - i've heard the same problem about the xbox - that it overheats and the unit shorts out after four hours....

with that - my brother in law got his girlfriend an xbox (actually found one in stores, can u believe it).

He had gotten her a playstation 2, but, he paid $400 for it, with no games. For the Xbox, he paid $570 for 3 games, got 1 controller and it worked out to be farther ahead....

so far they love it....

Hmmmm....overheating? Shorting? FWIW, our Xbox has had a good work-out since we got it by 3 teenagers. No overheating, no shorting, just a bunch of "oh's" and "ah's" over it's performance. I hate to say it, but it's definitely getting more attention than the Gamecube.

From what i hear my 'in laws girlfriend has been putting the box to the test as well....

From what I have seen at the stores - more peep's are crowded around the xbox than they are around the 'cube....
