Tolkien's only weakness.............

Must try to keep reading......Silmarilion....but Tolkien to descriptive.......can't keep all of the names straight.........ahhhhh.....must quit.....

Does this book get better, It is interesting and all, but now I know why it took me 2 times to try to finish LotR,

I'm at the begginning where the elves are going to Valinor, but some are staying in Middle Earth..... I did find it interesting to find that Souron was Melkors servant but evaded the Valar when they crushed his fort........ now why couldn't he describe that in detail???

Yes it does get better. I especially enjoyed Akalabeth. So I guess you haven't reached the point where Feanor creates the Silmarils? Oh it gets way better However, I must admit, it is "hardcore" Tolkien. My suggestion is "be patient" and read on. You won't be disappointed. Don't try to get too much into the lineage of the characters and just enjoy the story. It'll go much easier(and more enjoyable). Then, if you're like me, go back and read it after a period of time. Then you'll glean more out of it. I've read "The Silmarillion" 3 times in conjunction with about 8-10 readings of LOTR. HTH

I, too, have had a hard time with the Simarillian. I'm glad to hear it gets better. I'll have to try again.

FWIW, I first attempted to read "The Silmarillion" when I was 18(I'm now 41) and couldn't get into it. Despite the fact that by that time I had read LOTR about 4 times it was just too...deep...for me. I let it go for several years. When I picked it up again after a respite of about 10 years, I read it cover to cover and relished it. It's an awesome story and is definitely "darker", IMO, than LOTR. Those Elves are total BAD A$$ES!!!

Well thats incouraging, I might try that Silmarillion again. I too gave up after the barrage of countless character's. I know I've got the 19th in mind just about every day now. I still can't believe they have finally gone to the trouble to make this monster of story for us. Aragorn do you have a Aragorn mug yet? I plan on getting them all.

it just got a whole lot interesting, Melkor was just trapped in a web by that really big spider woman(can't remember her name)

did you guys see the making of LotR on fox a couple of nights ago? What was that really big thing with a club, couldn't have been a bolgorth(sp) could it?

Mikeman,
Ungoliant is the "mother" of all the bad spiders In fact, Shelob(Two Towers and Return of the King) is a descendant of Ungoliant. Ohhh...Ungoliant and Morgoth(Melkor) do some pretty nasty things....but you'll have to keep reading to find out And although I didn't see the special it sounds as if you are describing one of the Trolls. The Balrog was a demon that was engulfed in flames. This movie is gonna be cool( Harry Potter, watch out ).

Trapper,
Nah. I don't think I'll be collecting any of the mugs or other stuff. But yes...come the 19th, I AM THERE!!!
