digital cameras
I'm looking at digital cameras and was wondering what you guys are using or like. Is there anything to watch out for or look for.
I love my 35mm but on vacation I got to shoot a lot of pictures for other tourist with their digitals. Now I know I want one. thanks, Bill |

Iron Crab,
If you do a search on any of the boards for Digital Camera's you will get a ton of information. I just bought a Nikon Coolpix 995 a couple of months ago. It is a great camera. What do you want to spend? there are a lot of good cameras with a wide price range. We could help you out a little more if you gave us a price limit. Andrew

Good point! I know I'm not going over a $1000. I like the 4 to 5 hundred range but will go as high as 7 to 8 hundred if the camera will make it worth it.
I know that the higher the pixels the better which seems to go with the price. I think what I want is something that is simple to use ( my wife will probably be using it the most). It will have to take good clear pictures at all distances. Don't know what else to look for. I also have to add that I posted this because I have seem some of the best and neatest pictures taken by these cameras from the people who post them on this board. These pictures are unbievable. ( I know what the pictures are of are great too!) Last edited by Iron Crab; 12-03-2001 at 11:00 PM. |

I think I just posted a loaded question. I was looking at a few cameras at a local store. Just did a online search and had no idea of the giant seletions. Some going as high as $8,000.
the types and makes go on forever. asmith, Just checked out the Nikon Coolpix 995 and it looks like a great camera- it got a lot of great reviews. No hurry, I'll wade thru them and make a choice. Thanks. |

Iron Crab. I know that this is a really tough decision. I chose the Nikon because I have seen so many great pictures taken with earlier models (990, 950, 850, ect) Just a few things to consider. Optical zoom is a lot better than digital when it comes to picture quality. Rechargable batteries are a must IMO. A digital camera will go through batteries quickly. Also consider the type of storage that they use. I like the Compact Flash card that the Nikon uses. I purchased a 256 MB card for my camera. It will allow me to take almost 1000 high quality pictures and almost 3000 lower resolution pictures (still good quality).
I don't have much experience outside of the Nikon line, but I can assure you that you will be happy with a Nikon 995. Good luck with your decision. If you have any other questions just let me know. I will try to help you out. Let me know which camera you decide to go with. I look forward to seeing your pictures. ![]() Andrew

I got the Sony MVC-FD-90. My pictures go to a floppy disk. That way I don't have to load them to the computer. It goes for about $500.00

Thanks for your lastest posts. Gives me an idea on what to look for. I know I will be sticking with the bigger brand names - Canon, Nikon... I like the website- it will be helpful. I was on www.bizrate.com yeaterday. Sort of the same thing. Thanks |
