It's just another interpretation...
Have read just about everything published by Tolkein (and even some of the posthumous notes) several times since 1978, when I first cut Gym, Study Hall and Math, didn't even go home until after dinner, but holed up in the school library reading the Fellowship.
The way I see this, it's like seeing different dramatic interpretations of Shakespeare, Gogol, Goethe, Chekhov, great writers like these. I keep my own interpretation seperate in my mind, from that of the interpreters. Good that I didn't take any literature classes, didn't waste time memorizing and regurgitating the official interpretations! Cheers, Rob NYC PS Nicely done! This was maybe the best fantasy movie, but not the best movie I've ever seen. I never read the book but my step father did and I enjoyed it more then he did. He was too busy comparing it to the book.
