Talking Just ORdered new Home Computer!!

Since I'm starting a new job, I won't be able to play on my work computer like I do now, The necessity for a home computer has arisen.

I ordered a Dell.

P4, 1.6 gig processor, 256megs SDram, 80 gig HD.

It'll be a few months before I get a DSL or Cable Modem, so dialup will have to do for now, but hey, never had my very own puter (except when they were brand new things, and when you turned them on, all you got was a curser), so this'll be fun.

I can't wait.

Cool! I think you will be happy with the Dell. I ordered one about a year ago and I have no complaints. Yours is literally almost twice as powerful as mine though. <sigh>

I have a Dell. It's a little over four years old. I love it. Yours is way more powerful than mine and I paid way more for mine.

I recently upgraded my monitor to the 19" Trinitron from the 17" Trinitron and I really like the larger monitor a lot. Something to consider. I originally got the superduper fancy speakers, something I really didn't need.

Yeah, I orderd the Dell Dimensions 8200 last week.

1.8 GHz, Pentium 4, 256 ram, 19" monitor......The Gateway PC I have now is over 5 years old and just about had it. I'd never get another Gateway, Their customer service really sucked after about a year.

Sounds like a good computer! You'll be happy with it thats for sure. Its sooo convenient to have one at home. I was without one for a few weeks after I moved and I was going crazy!

I just built me a new one a few months ago. 1.4 G Athlon, 512M DDR 266mhz RAM, Asus Mobo, 60 G IBM Deskstar 7200 RPM, 64 M Geforce 3 PLat., and a Soundblaster Live! L Platinum complete with 5.1 Dolby. I LOVE this thing. Its been the most stable computer I have ever owned, and the performance is great. Still waiting to try a different OS on it....just can't afford it. Have ME now...... Am I the only one who isn't at all impressed with XP?

One thing for me....all my computers from now on will be AMD, I love it.

I don't mean to steal part of your thread (if it bugs ya let me know and I'll erase it), but...

Anyone know where to get cheap DVD burners? Or is it still too "new"?

Also, whats a good cheap ethernet card for setting up a 2 computer home LAN? Is that DLink wireless any good?

i'm using a encore 10/100 ethernet card and so far so good. with my cable modem we are running a linksys 4 port router to connect both our computers to the net with and so far so good - the router was easy to get set up and running (once comcast had our service up and running again here.... )

the ethernet card only cost me $10.00

i got all my stuff from www.sky-pro.net

DVD burners are still $$ Best service is local puter shop IMO. I bring my gateway there thay fix . Gateway was good until the warrenty was up. I hate any phone talk. I like eye to eye. Before puter shops werent very good, NOW IMO they are. Dell is tops for online IMO. You will be very happy. If your a gamer big speakes are a must. The big bass box is also. Man I wish i could get a new puter but i gotta go to Hawaii in 2weeks and get a new TV first.. My problem is I cant win the lotto. My bubby just bought a nice dell has the cable says he had to upgrade something cuz it took to long to down load a cd= 30sec he didn't want to wait

I'd immediately add another 256 mg RAM chip while it is still so cheap ($30 for a 256 mg PC 133 chip on crucial.com.)

As my ex-wife always used to say, "You can never have too much ram."

I've had my Dell 8200 for about a month now and I love it. P4 1.8Ghz, 512Mb RAM, 80GB HD, 19" monitor, 64MB Nvidia, DVD-ROM, CD-RW, Turtle Beach sound through a Harman Kardon 3-speaker system.

H U G E leap over the 333Mhz laptop that was my main machine. My only complaints are with Windows XP, and they are not really complaints, just frustrations. Hardware-wise, this thing kicks arse.
