Unhappy what would you do?

my parents bought me some fish for my 72 gal as a present... even though i told them not to, many times, they bought from petland. most of the fish have at the least, very damaged fins, and 2 cats with damaged whiskers (do they grow back?)...

heres the dilema: they bought me a baby firemouth, and it has one eye completly missing, the other is so damaged that i doubt it is functional the poor thing is having a terrible time finding food, and cannot defend itself. I dont see anyway of it surviving to adult hood, should i put it out of its misery?

I don't know, but I'm sure Reinhold does. Hang around. He should be here any minute now.

Wink

If I were you I would do the following:

1st, shave your head.

2nd, have yourself casterated so you can not reproduce

3rd, take a vow of silence

4th, move to Siberia and join a commune.

This may help your parents more than us, I mean you.

sorry to hear about your fish, what other kinds of fish are with him? Also do you have a regular community tank to put him in with. You know, tetras, stuff like that, if you do I'd put him in there as he probably won't be able to chase the other fish to much, as for finding food, he really should be able to learn to smell the food out

now I have a question for you

does this fish list sound alright

35g
pair of convicts
1 pleco
1 chinease alge eater
1 corey
5 zebra danios
5 tiger barbs
1 jack dempsey

I think the jack would be pushing it, but could I get like 2 more danios and him instead of the barbs, or should i leave him out? Needless to say I'll be adding all three cichlids at the same time, and they'll be the last addition.

thanks

Why dont you go back to pet land and explain that some very well meaning but not fish smart parents bought you these for a gift , explain whats wrong with them and that your folks did not know . See if petland will stand behind there fish and let you exchange them for a more healthy specimen . It would be worth atleast a phone call. As far as your list goes ,,,wouldnt the tiger barbs "form a gang" and the jack dempsey might also want to be the boss.

Fishkid- I would bag them and bring them back, you may want to talk directly to a manager to avoid any incompetance (sp?) from the sales associates. I would think you shouldn't have a problem.

Mikeman- I started off with fresh water years ago, had a 30 gal. with misc. fish (cant remember what I had) but I do remember when I put the Jack Dempsey in he ate 3 of my fish within 2 weeks...fwiw

FishKid:

I would watch the little blind Firemouth carefully during feeding time and see if it eats. There are many varieties of blind fish which survive just fine.

If on the other hand, it does not eat, or if it is bullied by the other battered fish in your tank, might I suggest Firemouth filets served with a side of Yellow Tangs and a nice Gewurztraminer? (Two minutes on each side in a hot pan with some Extra Virgin Olive Oil.)

Ltspd:

once he's castrated, shaved and silent, do you really think the trip to Siberia is necessary?

Way up Nort' here, we like to do a "Shore-Lunch Firemouth," eh?:

Take the Firemouth chunks, shake in a plastic bag containing "Fry Magic" powder, and fry in an iron skillet of oil over a driftwood fire on a deserted Canadian island 300 miles from nowhere.

Serve with baked beans, fried potatoes and onions, and beer. BURRRPPP!!! Then take a nap.

Now that's eatin'!!!

good news is hes eating and not being bullied (too much)

I origonally bought an oscar and 2 J Dempseys (m/f) and a pleco

but my dad saw it necessary to run out and buy more fish for MY TANK! you wont believe the list, he paid $60! if he would have waited 20min for me to come home i wouldnt be stuck with these fish (my petland wont take them back)

2 Needle nose gars
2 angelfish
2 catfish (dont even know the species)
1 irridescent shark
2 elephant noses
2 large gouramis

of course they were all added at once! nitrates through the roof!

I felt like screaming when i saw what he did, he dumped the bag water in the tank too!
