Question No sponsors?

Just wondering what happened to all the sponsors on this site? Is it sponsor-free now? Also, was there a reefland store that sold PFO/equipment? I must have missed it or it could have been another forum.

Hi dattack!

The only sponsor this board has had was our short-term online store; from which we did offer PFO products. When we closed the store, we lost our sponsor.

We have since added a new feature to Reefland, the Marketplace, which will hopefully generate some advertising revenue to cover the expenses of this site.

Thanks for the reply. I knew I wasn't going crazy. I just recalled that the PFO sold were pretty decent prices and I am currently looking to buy another. But oh well, I guess I go back to the other online stores.

P.S. I really like that auction idea too and looking forward to the new marketplace.

Just out of curiousity, how much does it cost to keep this BB up per month?

I'd be willing to send in a "free will offering" to help with expenses.

Hi Reinhold!

The average cost per month is around $100. This includes all of the server requirements and the license for the vBulletin.

As we continue to grow the cost could significantly increase. Currently, Reefland is hosted on a shared box, which is fine becuase the performance is great. Eventually, we will need to move to a dedicated box which will require some serious $$, which is why we are now searching for Advertisers for the Marketplace.

I think I can speak for organicreefer, fishkid and wgscott in saying we'd all be willing to pony up a few dollars a year to help defray costs. The advice I've gotten here is worth a lot more.

Think of the money I could have saved had I found this site before I bought a Visi-Jet skimmer, a SeaClone skimmer, an Eheim canister filter, etc.

How'd you know id be more than happy to chip in? (Not sarcastic) This site is great and i would hate to see Scott be burdened by the expenses to keep it running.

I'd be glad to chip in too. 99% of everything I've learned about saltwater husbandary I've learned from this site. Everyone who goes into this hobby pays dearly for their education but this site has helped me keep some of the costly mistakes down. It'd be worth it to me to pay a few bucks a month or a yearly fee. Or you could have have a fund drive, I'm sure we'd all come up with enough for you to cover expenses. (For now, anyway)

Thanks to all for your support...

Thanks to everyone for the support. Don't worry, the site is not shutting down or anything, I'm just looking into the future. The best way for everyone to keep Reefland alive in the coming months and years is to use it's services. The BB and Marketplace are for you anyway.
