Talking New Bicycle

Its final. I sold my R/C cars for a new mountain bike. I got $500 + shipping for the R/C. I am going to buy a 19" Specialized HardRock Comp. I can't wait!

Think I would have kept the R/C cars...

Nah... I have been racing them for 6+ years. After I had to move to Chicago last Sept I havn't been able to find a decent place to race close to where I live. Its a very expensive hobby too. I would say it would cost me more to race a month then it does to run my reef. And thats just in race entry fees. Besides the R/C cars wont help keep me from getting fat!

Whatever dude, I dont get it. Anywy I was checking out LayItLow.com and in one of the post about audio there was a guy in there who say he does car audio for a living. Anyway I emailed him a question about my truck. I got a full size Chevy 2001 ext-cab. I got to Kicker Solo 10's that I am going to build a sealed box to put under the back seat. What direction would I want the speakers to face? Whats you opinion?
Thanks!

Nice Bike!!!

Good luck on the speaker setup...My 2001 Frontier has tiny speaker wells so I'm going to have to modify the doors a bit...fun.
As a quick fix I dropped a Bazooka sub in the back behind the passenger seat.
Now it's a 3 seater truck!

My opinion is if its going under the seat to face it up but if its going behind the seat to face it towards the rear of the truck. Just my 2 cents though

I had two 10" Solo's in my 95 blazer, in your chevy, I would try to build the box to fit under your rear seats. THe subs as you probably know work extremely efficiently in small enclosures. Make sure you build the box to exact spec to keep the speaker from blowing. What are you using to power them? Wiring in 2ohms? I now put the 2 1-"s in my Lexus it still hits hard but not as hard as in my blazer. THe trunk is too dampened! I am going to remove the factory 12" to help with that.

Yup the lack of air space required is why I went with them. Plus I think Kicker/Stillwater Designs makes some of the best stuff out there. The fact that they are made in Stillwater Okla and me being born in raised in Tulsa Ok had a little to do with it too.

I'm not to sure how I am going to wire them up. You see I kinda made a error when I bought them. Some guy had 2 10"chrome basket solos and 1 10" comp for $200 bucks and they where brand new in the box. Well I think we all know how he got them or well you know what I mean. Anyway I was in "ahh" when I saw them all chromed out and failed to notice that the ohm load for each sub was different! Still kicking myself in the butt for it too! But I was thinking of just buying to amps and running each sub mono. I think thats about all I can do right? I'll blow a amp if I try and run them off the same amp since they are rated differently right?

You can run two amps in mono, but how outputs does your head have? If one one sub output, 1 rear, 1 front, try to find an amp that has passive pass-through RCA's. Then you can run one sub off the sub out of the deck and kind of daisy chain the second amp off the first. I would run the second amp off another channel, rear or front as it will make it difficult to balance. you will basically lose fader control to the rear. It is always nice to be able to dial in some rear-fill. I have a 6 channel PPI running my subs in 2ohms, and the rear MB quartz in 4ohms and my 2 sets of front MB's in 2ohms. It has worked very well, and clean. You might want to look into four channel amp and try the same, mono on each channel, then you can adjust the gain so that they will match in volume.

How large of an amp were you planning on running? With such a small cab, you might want to run one, sell the other and buy a nice mono or very strong stereo amp. Or sell both and pick up a 12" new solo. Just some options. 200.00 is a price that you can not beat...well some in "blue" might beat ya' for them!

Let me know what deck you are using and what amp you are thinking of.

This is what I was thinking. I dont have a head yet. I do have a 6 channel alpine with 3 internal x-overs. I was gonna use they alpine to run my mids and highs. not sure what to do with the 2 channels left over. rca cables run in left and right? i would take the sub output of the deck and split the 2 ends with a female/male male spliter and run the left to its own sub and the right to its own. i dont see how this would lose any fader control to the rear. i do see how the balance would be effected though(basicaly one side will be half of the other). but then again if you run it loud enough whos gonna know what side is louder? as for the amps for the subs i would probably just go and pick up what ever was on sale at the local audio store. was thinking of somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 watts rms per sub.

Sorry, back on topic...

Here are a few pics of my exciting bike. I absolutely love my Cannondale. This eats just as much $$$ as my tank though!

jlazo-Nice lookn ride! I really like Cannondle's. Unfortunately they where a little out of the prince range I want to stay in.

Ahh. Much better to be me.

Nike bikes guys! My father just replaced his smashed up Trek 2500 with a Cannondale R600... (Long, paaainful story. The helmet saved his life, and I'm not kidding.) He loves it, of course, as you will love yours. I'm a Trek girl, myself, but hubby has a Cannondale.

Seems like there are many of us with other expensive hobbies. Why is it that you can't just have one??

andrew,
killer ride! thats really what i wanted in the first place (a cannondale with a shock that is) how much did yours cost you? if you don't mind me asking. i havnt bought this specialized yet but if i do its gonna cost me $450.

whats everybodys opinion on the color that i should buy? RED or YELLOW? Both colors kinda have a "candy" tint to them.

SHOG,

Thanks. It really is a great bike. Mine is a 2000 model, which is the same as the picture. The 2002's have a different color scheme (I think). I paid around $900 for it. The LBS in Springfield MO were selling it for $1000, but I found one in Little Rock AR that was selling them for $100 cheaper. If you are lucky, you might be able to pick up one of last years models for a good price.

As for color choices, I personally prefer the Yellow. I think the Yellow and black combo on the first bike you posted (and on mine of course) looks really cool. Just beware that nice flashy bikes are stolen more frequently. My 1999 F500 was stolen off the back of my car after being left alone for less than 2 minutes.

If you can afford the Cannondale, then go for it. Otherwise I would by the bike with the best frame that I could afford. When the componentry wears out you can upgrade it. You can get some good deals on Ebay.

Andrew
