I thought it was OK. Some of the acting was not very good. I want to see it again before passing final judgement. Lord of the Rings was a much better movie.

Being a BIG fan of Star Wars, I will (try) to stay out of this thread until I see the movie. I'm just afraid of bumping into a spoiler

But for the record, I didn't really like Episode I a *lot* (didn't hate it either), but I think it had too many special effects in it. I liked the style of the original trilogy better.

I didn't buy the Episode I DVD (and don't think I will), but I would die for the original trilogy on DVD!

Joaco
ps: ok maybe i wouldn't die for it, but my mother-in-law could take my place in that

When I was in Universal Studios for the last time 6 years ago, there was a shop on Universal Street (was that the name? it's next door to the Studios) that had a Stormtrooper uniform for sale. Very cool thing, made with the original molds, man size of course, the thing had a price tag of $2.500
I just showed it to my wife (I swear I just showed it, didn't say a word!!) and she said that if I bought that *idiotically expensive toy* she would divorce me when we got back home. Oh, forgot to say that it was during our honeymoon

Joaco
ps: now when I want to make her mad, I just tell her that spending $2.500 at the right time can save a man's future!!

years later I saw a real size Yoda for about $500 but it reminded me a lot of my mother-in-law when she was a teenager, so I just passed on the idea

LMAO Joaco! I wanted to say more about episode 2 but I didnt want to be a spoiler....but I agree that the special effects have taken a priority in the series but that was kind of inevitiable. Lucas knew it would bring in the $ so he did it.

Great movie! I agree Rocky. Loved it. I'm a big Star Wars fan and I really can't wait until the final episode! I truly did not like the actor they picked to play Ani, but I can get over that. Yoda rocks! His fight scene had me rolling! I saw it on opening night and will see it again.

I liked the more 'crappy' look of the rebel starships in the original Trilogy, nothing can compare to the X-Wing and not to mention my all time fav: the Millenium Falcon!

The new modern, shiny, metallic, aerodynamic look of the starships isn't what I like the most, so to speak. I can understand that before the Empire took over, the good guys had shiny vehicles, and after that, the resistance had to fly the space-crap.
Even so, the mental image of Chewie and Han Solo kicking the engines trying to reach light speed in the Millenium Falcon is what I like!

Something else I didn't like about Episode I (and I saw on the trailers of Episode II that it happens there as well):
Instead of old-fashioned light saber duels medieval-times-style and samurai-style, they now use a mix of martial arts and gymnastics in the Jedi fights.

What happened? before the Empire they all knew martial arts and Jedis could jump high and far? and during the Rebellion, the last Jedis didn't know how to kick above the belt? I can understand that Obi Wan Kenobi was maybe too old to double Jackie Chan, but Luke wasn't exactly a black belt either...

I know, everything for a buck. BUT if I see any Matrix style freeze-camera-and-turn-in-the-air-then-unfreeze-and-kick in Episode II or III...I swear I won't buy those DVDs either!
That would be too much. Where are the times of old cowboy-style Jedis??

Joaco - You and I must be around the same age. I agree 100% with you. I wonder if age has something to do with it. The more movies one sees the harder it is to impress that person? I don't know.

I liked Episode I though. Episode II just seems to be too flashy. Perhaps I will like it more the next time I see it. In my opionion, The Empire Strikes back is still the best out of the series so far. Star Wars was excellant also and Return of the Jedi was OK. It needs to have balance between the story line and the special effects. My favorite parts of the movie were probably the slower parts where there was actually a little character development. Of course, just my opionion. You notice how I haven't flamed anybody because of their opinion? I have no problems with people loving Episode II or The Matrix, or any other movie. To each his/her own.

Has anybody read the three Star Wars books that center around Grand Admiral Thrawn. What a excellant story! It would be so cool if they turned those books into movies. Wouldn't be possible of course because the actors are too old for the time period the story takes place.

Steve, I'm 30. I'm pretty sure age has to do with it.
When I went to see the first one of the Trilogy (1978) my father came with me and had to translate the whole movie to me while it was playing! I didn't speak any English back then, and the movie only came with Spanish subtitles, which passed way too fast for someone just learning to read
Empire Strikes Back was already played in Spanish over here.
I really liked how A New Hope was all filmed around 'earth colors' (desert), Empire Strikes Back in white (snow), and The Return of the Jedi in gree (vegetation). You didn't need a lot of fancy special effects to get your attention, the story and characters were the heart of the movies.

Of course we have to take in mind that a LOT of things changed, just look at how much money is made nowadays around the action figures, PC games, etc, etc! so I think (correction: I'm SURE) that the characters are developed considering how the toys will sell after the movie. Nothing wrong with that (actually I collect some Star Wars stuff), but I still liked the old style better

Joaco, I am 32. I have a lot of Star Wars & Empire toys and some from Jedi. All packed away in boxes that I rarley look at, but when I do dig them out it is quite fun to reminisce. If you get the chance read the three book series by Timothy Zahn - 'Heir to the Empire', 'Dark Force Rising', and 'The Last Command'. It is a excellant series.

My take on AOTC,

It is by far the darkest (both in mood, lighting and feel) of any of the Star Wars movies so far.

And IMO the dialog was by far the worst, I think ol' George is loosing it a little there. Maybe some stuff got edited out for time reasons that would have made the dialog still there make more sense. And the whinny Anakin character does really make me hate him unlike the first movie. I guess setting him up to be Vader.

But it was a good movie, not in the same vein as 4,5,6 and 1, but still a good space/sci-fi opera. It just doesn't really stand on its own, much like Return of the Jedi, it needed a earlier movie to stand.

It appears I am a little older than most of you; since I have seen every Star Wars movie in the theater on the first release within in the first 5 days of it coming out.

But it was worth the $8.50

But I am bummed that the teaser before the movie says that the Matrix sequels won't be out until next year now.

Well 38 and loved the first 3 episodes except for the fur balls but they where better than JarJar. You would think if they can put episode I on DVD they would get off thier butts and put the first three on DVD, what the hell are they waiting for money sucking dogs.

Anyway I Will have to see the new one still. Looking more to see the spiderman movie than starwars though. Ive gotten to where I just wait till the DVD's come out and watch them at home excpecially after all the money I spent on the entertianment system.
The Matrix ROCKS. I watch that movie like once a mounth. Probably drive my nighbors nuts when I crank up the suround sound on the indooor gun fight sceen in the hallway.

George Lucus has the rights to the Star Wars movies and he needs to give the say on when the come out on DVD. The last I heard was he said that there wasn't enough people buying DVDs to justify the cost of converting the movies over to DVD. That was some time ago. I am looking forward to the next Terminator movie even though Arnold is getting a little old to be playing a action hero. It will be very interesting to see a blonde bad Terminator. Should be fun hopefully. I can't think of any other mainstream movies that I absolutley hated but the Matrix. I thought it was horrible. I saw it in the theater. There are so many people that loved it perhaps I will have to rent it to see if I change my mind.

George's current thought is that he will finish with EP 1-3 first, They are very easy to put on DVD as EP 2 was shot entirly in Digital, and could be sent out as DVD before it could be even done in VHS. There were a couple of full digital versions that were up here in Nor CA of EP 1 as well and that was one of the big contributing factors to it reaching DVD so fast.

But with EP 4-6 there is little of the extras (read cutting room floor stuff) to add in with the DVD as well as little incentive to make the quality jump from VHS. He has said he will release them, but not until EP 1-3 are done and released on DVD first.

Of course he said Star Wars will never be in TV either at one point, because he didn't feel that it have all the picture and feel of going out to the movies provided. So that just proves that he can change his mind at anytime (unlike some women I know- but that's another story).

I imagine that Fox will push him more to do it when they see some of the EP 4-6 region 0 DVD's that have come out from the orient already.

*edit
As an intresting add on there are some small bits that Ms Portman filmed that will be included on the DVD for Return of the Jedi, so once again ol george is playing/fine tuning the story.
**end edit

Will try to get them! I don't have time to read at all now, but sure wish I could. I bought the Han Solo Trilogy some years ago (by A.C. Crispin) and never had the time to read any of three volumes yet. They are 'The Paradise Snare', 'The Hutt Gambit' and 'Rebel Dawn'.

If there is something that *rocks* (after Star Wars of course) is Arnold in The Terminator!! I have T1 and T2 in both DVD versions, and next to them I have a 7 inch cold cast resin Exoskeleton skull. I was shooting for the 1/1 scale chrome skull but for $500 I thought I could buy some corals instead

The bad blonde in T3 (the T-X played by Kristanna Loken) is a *much* better choice than Chyna IMO

Back to AOTC, I still have no idea when it will be played down here. There are already playing Spiderman, so AOTC shouldn't take long to land here as well!
