Static Electricity
Yesterday evening after a pretty bad storm in my area, there seemed to be static electricity in teh air as it was amking my sister-in-laws hair stand straight up. I beleive I heard that if your hair stood up (due to the static electricity) during or after a storm there was a chance of getting struck by lightening.
Anyone ever hear that or can explain why the static electricity was present? Thanks, Scott Z. |

There's always static electricity in the air, more so during a storm. Sometimes during a storm the clouds don't discharge all of it like they usually do. During a storm there are more free floating electrons that don't always get discharged by lightening. It does seem that the chance of getting struck by lightening would be greater, but I'm not sure.
I do know that being outside in that state of hyper static electricity can be really creepy and scary. I'm glad I live in an area where that doesn't happen much. Yeah, give me a flash flood any day. ![]()
