Anybody know anything about cars?
well to start out, i haven't been here in a couple weeks, so hi!
The tank is doing great, my little colt coral that started out under 2" is getting huge, my shrooms are reproducing, my coral beauty is not getting into trouble....everything is great. However i need a car, and a cool car at that. I was riding my bike home from somebodies house and some girls in my grade drove past pointed a laughed, this is what I would do if i had a car. ![]() My grandpa has a 1964 galaxie 500 with a thunderbird engine(not enough money for an actual t-bird so he just got its engine) its has a v8 6 cylindor engine that goes up to 390 horsepower, top speed, 140mph. It has all leather interior and its in perfect shape! However its like a child to him and until he dies, it won't be mine , hmm thats sounds shallow?!? anywho i went out to a junkyard in town, and they have a pretty nice nova, i couldn't tell what year, but I'm thinking of getting a job and buying her, my question is, are nova's good cars, i know they are fast and dangerous, but helll im fast and dangerous how easy are these things to fix, it has some rust spots around the wheels, and its missing crome plating on one side, nothing i couldn't fix. Any tips for getting into muscle cars? Wish me luck, im trying to get a job at my grandpa's farm, so maybe he would let me take the galxie to town, i would take the thing right up to the girls house at 4 in the morning and then rev it, it sounds like a damn plane taking off........revenge is best served loud any thoughts, comments? tia |

I've restored many older cars...70 Mach 1, 69 BOSS 302, 68 T/A....All I can say is read, read, read, read! Your biggest problems will be money for the pit and acquiring special tools needed to make the repairs.
Also...saying you have a V8 6cyl. is like saying you have a 1 square foot 200 gallon tank ![]()

NOva's are Very Fast, ignore SHOG, he's just poking fun at you. (DOn't always ignore SHOG, just when he pokes fun
) Muscle cars are difficult, they drink a lot of gas, are always breaking down (one little wire pops off, stops the whole show). But that's pretty much the story with any old/used car. Where you'll get hung, is resale value. Nova's, Darts, etc. can be made to be VERY FAST cars, but you can spend 30K on them to make them fast, their still only worth about 6-8K totally restored (that's being generous) A Mustang, Camaro, or other similar marque will still cost you the same amount to restore, but you'll have a 10-14K (or perhaps higher) car. THe catch here is youll spend a little more to get the restorable Mustang/camaro than you will a DArt or Nova. But the overall return is better. Just my .02 there. Whatever you get, wear seatbelts (install them if it's too old to have them), Be careful. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON"T DRAG RACE. (There have been like 4-5 teens killed here around B'ham in the last month, from drag racing their little rice rockets; read: Japanese 4bangers. (not that I have anything against Japanese 4bangers, it's just sad when kids die) |

once again i have basically no knowledge of cars so i was just telling what he said..... however i know the galaxia is fast as it got up to 80 easily after sitting in a garage for 2 years with no movement......he would have gone faster im sure if we hadn't hit a gravel road....
and oh shog no offense takin, i like jokes too....i'm guessing you were laughing with me and not at me though, right? ![]() I know what u mean, but im not looking to sell it when i fix it up, and im not fixing it up to brand new. There's a nice mustang gia(or something like that) in town, but it will probably be to expensive up front just because of the brand name. Also there are alot of camaros in town, so I'll have to look for a used one, but i like the cheap nova the best right now also part of me wanting to fix up the car, is to spend time with my best bud, do something fun, learn some knowledge of mechanics for later life, and so i dont get into trouble, its really not for trying to save money. thanks for all your help now to get a job |

If you go Pro Street and you're not too interested in bringing the vehicle back to factory specs., Then any Camaro, T/A, Nova, Mustang of the sort is your best bet. Pre 1970 muscle cars are a better buy. The EPA got involved with the emissions control act with the 1971 and newer vehicles and you'll have more "junk" under the hood to deal with. Given you find an older car for less then $1000 that runs or is close to it, you could have a decent "Muscle" car for under $5000.00. Go after market as much as you can. You wont have much luck finding parts at the factory due to the age of the vehicle. Check out Summit Racing or Jegs magazines. If you have specific questions about restoring give me an e-mail at smeglinm@yahoo.com ,what ever you end up buying you'll want to have a few basic tools to help you like an air compressor (best investment when working on old cars!!!) and some air tools, car ramps, shelves to store the parts and most important....a camera to take before and after photos. Photos of linkage or wiring comes in handy when it's time to reassemble the car and there's doubt involved. Good luck....

Mikeman,
Glad I did not offend you. I indeed was just laughing with you. (or atleast I am now!) Sounds like a fun project. I would like to restore a 67' 68' or 69' (heck even a 70' if I had to) camaro some day. Good luck! SHOG ![]()
