One of the guys on this board is a cop with a K-9 partener, but I can't remember who. I thought he might be able to give me some info on this, or anybody who has info or some links for me.
Here's the thing:
My son has a registered AKC German Shepherd Dog, 8 months old. Besides being beautiful, conforming to type, he's smart and seems to have a temperment suitable for police or military work.

Colin has realized it was a mistake getting Pete (Peter der Hund) since neither he nor his fiance has enough hours in the day to take but minimal care of the dog, let alone time to train him properly. Also Pete's exuberant, aggressive personality would not go well with small children and Colin and Tina plan to start a family.

So they would like to donate Pete to train for police, customs, or search and rescue work. I know most of these type dogs are procured from breeders who specialize in raising and training these animals. But I'm sure Pete would make a really good cop and we'd like to know how to give him that chance.
Any info or ideas are welcome.
