Maybe we could just send Jesse Jackson over there to rhyme 'em to death.

WG,

Sixteen hours now and still no one has voted in your poll. I don't think they like the choices.

BTW, you wouldn't be trying to instigate a new sanctions-are-evil thread, would you?

Did 600,000 innocent children (please spare the pictures this time) die because of the sanctions or because Saddam diverted the money from baby food to new palaces and new tanks for his Republican Guard?

But, on to a more up-to-date topic: Will Russia, China and France agree to a new compromise resolution that requires Saddam to open all of his so-called palaces to a thorough inspection? I predict that they will. I predict that Saddam will never allow anyone to inspect all of them because that's where he stashes his stuff. (P.S. added 1/1/05: I was had! I actually believed we had something on him. Shame on me. Team Rapture had me fooled.)

I'll let you predict what happens next. I'm having too much fun right now watching the administration eat their children, so to speak. All of a sudden heads are about to roll in the energy market swindles that took California ratepayers to the cleaners. Oh, the juicy quotes from the likes of Cheney back in the day that the Demos will feast on if they have any brains at all. If any of this stuff comes out it will make Watergate and Whitewater and Monicagate look like child's play. Kenny Lay prescreening nominees to the federal commission that regulates his company, writing memos to Cheney that are incorporated verbatim in the administration's energy policy, Cheney chiding California for causing its own energy crisis and saying that the free markets should be left untouched, etc. Oh, the horror! (In my best Marlon Brando voice.) (P.S. added 1/1/05: This turned out to be much, much worse than I ever imagined! In fact, it turned out to be much worse than even James Carville imagined!)

I see your boy Michael Moore is still up to his old tricks. But whatever happened to Nader and the Green Party? They seem to have faded into the sunset. Which is where I predict Cheney will fade before the next convention. They can always say it was a health thing. They'll drop him faster than they drop the phone when Enron calls.

What a coinkidink. Neither do I. But then I was never given the choice.

No, just ineffectual, as has now been admitted. So I guess the experiment didn't work.

Ok. But they are so cute.

Are these mutually exclusive?

The governor who facilitated the fleecing will probably win re-election.

Ninong: Jello Biafra = former head of the band called the "Dead Kennedys"

which I probably misspelllled.

WG,

Don't forget that I lived in the Bay Area for two decades. Of course I know who Jello Biafra is. Thankfully I have never heard him perform. I believe I do remember him running for SF mayor in the election following Moscone's murder.

And hasn't he run for President a few times? So, are he and Nader forming some sort of Presidential ticket?

I assume his name is a cruel play on all the starving baby pics from the Biafran famine. You may not be old enough to remember those but they were about the same as the starving baby pics on the anti-Iraq sanctions websites today. Just another of those little tribal conflicts following independence from their colonial rulers that cost 1,000,000 or more lives three decades ago.

P.S. -- The only word you misspelled was "misspelled."

Ninong, when Jello ran for Mayor he got so many votes it forced a runoff...really really ticked off a few folks.

Jello has been doing some speaking at a few Nader attended events lately.

Implying Ralph was playing Bass wasn't my intention. Sorry for the confusion.

Everybody knows Nader is far too busy playing drums for The Residents.

Why would he bother hiding his nuclear and biological arms in a palace where he knows we are going to look. why not hide them in a big hole out in the middle of the desert so we will never find them. That just seems like the obvious solution to me. Sure, he'll put a few in a bunker or two in his backyard just to get the inspectors off his back, but we'll never find all his arms. We might as well just nuke the whole planet that will solve everyone's problems right? (insert sarcasm here)

Henry,

He has dozens of so-called palaces. The main palace in Baghdad consists of more than 700 buildings, including warehouses, military headquarters, research facilities, etc.

I'm only a few months away from 40.

I even remember where I was at when Kennedy got shot.

(Yes, I have an alibi.)

So I take it you didn't think the picture was funny?

Geez, not even a "Welcome back, we almost missed you." You really do hold me personally responsible for Bush's "win," eh?

Welcome back.

Hmmm... that means you were about 4 years old when the war and famine in Biafra began and 7 years old when Biafra ceased to exist as an independent country.

I take it you were not quite one when Kennedy was shot. I remember Pearl Harbor. Beat that!

George père was following the advice of Colin Powell, then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in ending the war when he did. This was over the strong objection of Dick Cheney, then Secretary of Defense. But in all fairness, the U.N. mandate said nothing about invading Iraq, only that we were to get the Iraqi forces to withdraw from Kuwait.

The truly sad thing about that situation is that we misled the opposition in both the north and the south to think that we would come to their aid if they rose up against Saddam. They did. But we didn't. They were slaughtered, especially in the south.

The reasons for not marching on Baghdad then are the same as the reasons for exercising caution now. They can be summarized in two little words: What next?

I think it is pretty obvious now that the present Bush is determined to wage war against Saddam Hussein come hell or high water. Only this time, I don't think there will be much marching involved. I wouldn't want to attend any New Year's parties at any of those so-called palaces and it might be a good idea to pass on the Thanksgiving invitations, too.

What, are you crazy or something?

We never invade anybody on the eve of an election, especially when both the Senate and the House are so evenly split and both parties are seeking control. Too many unknowns.

I didn't realize the gubernatorial contest was that close in Florida. I figured Jeb was a cinch. Is he getting any sympathy for having to deal with his crackhead daughter?

Is Pat Buchanan running for anything down there? I hope they did away with butterfly ballots this time. Are the police going to set up vehicle check points near the polls again to discourage the wrong sort of people from voting? And how many times do you think they will have to count the ballots this time?

I hope the Democrats figure out a way to help all the senior citizens in West Palm this time so that they know for sure who they voted for after the election.

I don't see a war for a while. First we have to make sure all the Democrats are out of Iraq (Well, second thought, maybe not.). I mean how would it look with bombs dropping in the background while a bunch of Democrats are having tea with the Iraqi leadership.
I guess we have to see it in their eyes. Saddam is only a ruthless dictator who would gas his own people but George Bush is a REPUBLICAN.
Saddam did win the Iraqi election with 100% of the vote from his people... and a few Democratic Congressmen.
Maybe they were over there looking for a running mate for Al Gore.
He might be looking for an edge to win his own State the next time around.
Republicans are not the greatest but the Democrats.....

Pat Buchanan is starting to look good. Could be because I haven't heard a thing from him . GO PAT!!

The smart voter: "I know who I want to vote for but I don't know how!" --- That should replace: "I've fallen and I can't get up!"

I feel safer already.

Poor Pat.

He came by to talk to Flagler College...but some silly bomb threat canceled it before he could speak. <true story>
Those whacky college kids...I swear!

No Nin, the crackhead daughter thing has really hurt him.
Bad.
His credibility is finished. Kaput. Bye-Bye...Elvis has left the building.

You can't hang with the intolerant bunch he represents and still be compassionate to your crackhead offspring.
Most of his backers are only a few generations away from stoning their children for less.
On the flipside...
The "jail for yours...but mine goes to a cushy drug rehab" doesn't wash with the rest of the folks.
Then add the "public humiliation in court looks good on you guys, it's a deterent...but my family matters are private" angle and what you have is a jackass about to get a divorce and a change of address.

Don't worry about the election this year guys.

We're being bombarded heavily by the media that sup(b)er patriot John Ashcroft is sending his best people down here to make sure nothing "bad" happens.
<another true story>

What an honor!

Boy, is this an old thread!

Don't you just hate it when things go exactly as you feared they would?

Four more years of Team Rapture! Pray for impeachment.

P.S. -- To all our Canadian and Australian members: I didn't vote for him! So don't blame me if he invades your country next.
