Any deer hunters?

If I'm not playing with my tank-- I'm in the woods. With me maybe I'm more of a deer watcher. This year not seeing much.
Anyone else here that spends a lot of time in a tree??

The firearms season for deer begins here the second week of November. There will be 400,000 people with high-powered rifles in the woods that weekend.

I've hunted for 14 years and never shot a deer. I didn't even see a deer during the entire decade of the 90's. But I love the comeraderie and the relaxation of hanging out for 6 days with six of my best friends.

We don't have real deer here.
Kinda like a pygmy deer...or a miniature deer.
Not worth it IMO.

I do however, enjoy bird hunting.
Every few years my Dad and I go to South America to hunt dove.

Skeet shooting is fun also.

I'm not much of a hunter, even though I am a certified rifle marksman. I have gone squirrel hunting a few times, but they always left the area when I arrived. I guess I need to learn how to walk through dry leaves without alerting all of the wildlife in the county.

Pennsylvania is a big hunting state. We have 1,000,000 hunters in the woods on the first day of the firearm season taking more than 100,000 deer. Too many hunters in the woods at that time.

I start with archery hunting the first of October which goes to November. All last week I was using my flintlock. I've only seen 8 deer so far. A weird spring screwed up the apple crop and I think they are moving differently this year. I do see tons of sign so I know they are there.

Not much bird hunting but I do love to squirrel hunt. Trouble is that squirrel and the early deer seasons are the same time.
asmith, most of the time I do best to find a spot in the middle of some nut trees and just taking a seat. Sometimes I'll read a book for an hour before they start moving again.

In my neck of the woods, there are many predators which are decreasing the deer population. Timberwolves have made a huge comeback, and last year, we saw a Mountain Lion 30 feet behind us.
