Arrow Moving 6,000-gal reeftank....

How would you like to have to break down and move a 6,000-gallon reeftank? Plus 174 other display tanks with a total volume of 400,000 gallons.

Steinhart Aquarium at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park is finally going to rebuild and they are looking for temporary quarters to house their aquariums during the four year renovation process: http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...1/MN241956.DTL

I believe they are the second or third oldest aquarium on the continent and I guess this is the bond issue that I remembered passing in SF a few years ago. This is great news! I hope the new facility is world class to match their world class location.

Think of how long it'll take to dip out all that water into RubberMaid containers!

One interesting fact I read in that article is that they get natural seawater off Ocean Beach (SF) and haul it in their 15,000-gal tank truck. So maybe they can use the tank truck to transport "old" water during the move or maybe they will just go with fresh NSW.

They are fortunate that thanks to the dot.com bust, the SF commercial real estate market is extremely weak right now and rents are way down from levels of three years ago.

I wonder how extensive this renovation is going to be? I wish they would build a larger reeftank exhibit.

If anybody from the Bay Area has more information, please post.

Thanks,

I would love to know how much beer and pizza it is going to cost them to move those tanks.
