PDA - recommends?

I'm looking at getting a PDA - strictly for phone numbers, appointments etc. No real need to surfing the web etc....

Any thoughts?

Cool

Hey,

I have a Palm Pilot and LOVE it!! At first I thought it would be difficult but now can't live without it.

Take the plunge!

I have been wanting one too. If thats all you want it for I am willing to bet one around 100 will do. Maybe even a little less. I'm sure Best Buy or Circuit City would have several for you to choose from also. Let me know what you get what and what you think.

Check out the new Dell Axim's... they can be had for close to $150-$200 and pack a pretty good punch for the price. They'll do a little more than you need... but i'm sure after a while with a cheaper PDA you'll end up wishing you paid a bit extra for more features.

I bought my Handspring Visor Neon about a year ago. The folks at 3Com who invented the Palm OS left Palm and founded Handspring. They are a little cheaper than Palm Pilots model for model and have just a little more "punch". I have the 2nd from the bottom model and it was around $120 I think. Got it at Best Buy. I use the address book and the calendar and the memo/"To Do" list features.

Definitely go to a place like Best Buy or Circuit City -- they will have ALL the models for you to "test drive". And whatever you do, don't buy the "enhanced warranty" the store will inevitably try to sell you. The Manuf. warranty is perfectly sufficient.

I have the Palm Vx it was around $400 at the time. I just saw one (and a newer model) for $199. It holds my phone#, emails, and appointments. When it is sitting in the holder you just push the button and it exchanges all the mail, appointments, and phone# with your PC.
Very easy to use without a training course or even having to use the manual.

HTH,
Kevin

My Handspring Visor is two years old. I don't use it as a calendar....I'd rather look at a paper book for that. I do keep phone numbers, email addresses, etc. on it.

The most useful function of my PDA is as a pocket reference. I keep Epocrates on it. Epocrates is a drug information data base that is updated monthly, and it's invaluable.

I also use my Palm for ePocrates, I use it daily in my practice and couldn't get by without it! I also have multiple different programs on it that assist me in my practice.

I also frequently use my address book.

You can get some of the Palms now for a good price. I have the expanded memory as well, and it is nice to have the extra space. You can also get a dictionary card that is very good.

Good luck on your choice.

I have a Palm M505. Color, recharable batteries, etc. Great PDA.

I got it from Return Buy

They offer good deals on Refurb. electronics. They have the M505 for 169.99 right now. It comes with Data Viz Documents to go (about $30) so you can use word and excel files. Return Buy was also a pretty good vendor, delivered on time.
