Washington - Police have recovered a BMW believed to be involved in a road rage shooting on the George Washington Parkway. U.S. Park Police say the driver of the BMW fired a shot into another car on Sunday, just missing the other driver's head. Authorities say they don't know what sparked the road rage incident between the drivers of a gray BMW and a blue Mercedes. Apparently, the two were going back and forth, cutting each other off on the northbound lanes of the GW Parkway, near Route 123 in Fairfax, Va. The driver of the BMW, who was accompanied by a woman in the passenger's seat of the car, then pulled out a gun and shot out the rear window of the Mercedes. The bullet lodged into the driver's seat, missing him by a few inches. No one was seriously injured. Police spokesman Scott Fear says another driver who saw the shooting jotted down the license plate number of the BMW and called police. Investigators say they also received a call from someone with knowledge about the driver of the BMW. Fear says police expect to make an arrest soon. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crime to call them at 202-610-8757.

Family Values:
12/6/02 Alexandria, Va. - Bond was denied for the young man accused of opening fire on a car in a case of road rage. Twenty-one-year-old David Michael Keene was sent back to jail, where he's been since his arrest late Thursday. He's the son of GOP activist David A. Keene, who is also on the board of the National Rifle Association. The younger Keene was allegedly driving a BMW on the George Washington Parkway on Sunday - with his fiance in the passenger seat - when he passed Mercedes, which then passed him. Authorities say David Michael Keene opened fire - the bullet shattering the rear window of the Mercedes and lodging in the driver's seat. Amazingly, the driver wasn't hurt, and managed to get the BMW's plate number. According to court papers, the family of Keene's fiance told police he has a "quick hot temper," and recently bought a gun. Keene hired one-time Monica Lewinsky lawyer Plato Cacheris, who claims Keene has a history of emotional problems. Keene is due back in court December 17th.

Aren't we all glad to hear that "the young man" has "a history of emotional problems" and "a quick hot temper?"
For awhile there I thought it might be a case of attempted murder, but now that we know that he is from a wealthy, well-connected family with a very high priced lawyer, I'm sure it will turn out to be just a big misunderstanding. Maybe "the young man" just needs some counselling.
