Hey Ninong how do you know everything?

Hey Ninong,

From reading several of your threads on various boards I'm come to the conclusion that you are a - Maniac.

Many of your posts exhibit extreme detailed knowledge in many areas including, science, history, physics, etc., etc.

Seriously, are you a genius? Or do you read a lot? Both?

What motivates you to learn? What motivates you to learn in such detail?

Hmmm... let's see! I guess I'm just interested in a lot of stuff.

As far as the reefkeeping stuff is concerned, that's because I wanted to be informed before I set up my first tank. I got interested about three years ago but health problems have prevented me from setting up my first ever marine aquarium. In the meantime I have continued to research that field in my spare time and I have a lot of spare time since I retired on medical disability four years ago.

I have a sweet little 120-gal Starphire tank that is sitting empty on its stand in my room looking all gorgeous and jewel-like. See: Pics of Ninong's Starphire Glass Tank from Canada, eh!

However, I have decided to upgrade before a drop of water has ever touched that tank. Crazy, huh?

I will be selling that tank for whatever I can get and I will probably be selling my Lifereef LF1-150 sump with 24" Lifereef skimmer, too! All of my equipment is brand new and unused so I should be able to get something reasonable for it. I really like Lifereef products a lot, I just want a larger size Lifereef skimmer and a much larger sump-refugium combination.

We are building a new addition to the house so that I will have more room and this allows me to reconsider my reeftank plans. Right now it looks like the new tank will be in the range of 225-250 gallons but there is still a slight chance that it could be as large as 325-425 gallons. A really slight chance on the 425 gallons.

Naturally it will be a Starphire tank from Inter-American with a powder coated tubular steel frame for the basic support. The 225-250 gallon range allows me to stay with single thickness 12mm Starphire. Anything larger will require 24mm Starphire (two 12mm panes laminated together) and weigh well over 1200 pounds.

Wish me luck...

Robot or not, I will be willing to bet that when he gets his tank up and running it will be a sight to behold.

Ali,

Ninong is how you say?...."the man?!".

He's been around here (or wherever ) as long as I can remember. Cheers to Ninong for helping so many on so many occasions.

Now, if only Joaco could find somewhere safe. His site was (is?) an awesome resource....until his countrymen decided looting and pilfering was more fun than keeping reeftank websites current. Can't really blame them....its all the fault of the fat cat government dogs from what I can tell.

Ninong....did you see my post? I spent like 45 minutes typing up a response to your thread in the secret zone and now it's not there?

Sorry for the delay. At 5 a.m. Friday I was in the back of an ambulance on my way to the hospital... again. That's where I spent the past five days. I just got out this evening.

Perry, sorry about that, I'll have to look for your post. I deleted my thread asking you about lighting for the 415-gal tank because I had decided that I would be biting off more than I could chew with something that large. At the time that I deleted my inquiry, I had already downsized my plans to something closer to 225 gallons or thereabouts.

But... everything's on hold again. I have no idea whether I will keep the little 120-gal tank, sell it, set IT up instead of a larger one, or actually go ahead and order a larger one. The only thing that is certain right now is that I will have to wait a few weeks more before making my decision.

Thumbs up

Hi All,

Yes, Ninong is amazing.

I am sort of Renaissance man/book fiend myself and even though I personally have 20+ years of SW experience also, Ninong is a great resource for detailed discussions.

George, I hope everything works out well on the medical front!

Regards,

Scott
