Does any one know anything about these mushrooms, i had them in Iowa last week, and they are probably the best darn thing I've ever tasted.
Any Iowans out there?

In general, I can tell you that morels are very hard to find, which is why they are typically so expensive, compared to say ****akes or portabellos or some of the other "fancy" mushrooms. They taste FABULOUS as you have already mentioned. They are available seasonally, depending on where you live, and you can usually get them from gourmet food purveyors, although you'll pay a pretty penny. A high-end grocery store should carry them dried -- and they are almost as yummy. Very easy to reconstitute as well -- put in bowl, pour boiling water over. Strain out the grit and keep the liquid for sauces.
Do I sence a cooking lessons maybe available soon,Rebecca?

Gene,
OK, you snagged me. I like to cook. And I really like mushrooms. Blame it on my mother, who has been a "foodie" for years.. I probably didn't stand a chance. I DO think it's pretty funny that the editing sw "bleeped" the mushroom name though...
And I agree w Elmo -- BRAVO on the emoticons! I just saw your dancing bunch over on the "update must read" thread .
TOO cool! How do you make 'em dance???

In my neck of the woods, there is a very brief Morel-hunting season. They are generally found at the base of rotting trees and can be very difficult for the untrained eye to spot.
There are many elders in my town who are expert mushroom hunters who can find one or two grocery sacks full of Morels in an afternoon.
You absolutely want to know exactly what you are looking for, as there are some Morel look-alikes which are poisonous.
