DI Resin Expiring Quickly

Russ,

I was wondering if there is a possibility of DI resin being used up prematurely? The cartridge I got from you a few weeks back is already changing colors from the black to a light rusty brown, about half of the cartridge (middle of the cartridge to the top). I have all new cartridges and a new membrane so I am not sure why the resin is changing colors so soon. There has been 100 gallons max ran through the unit with these new cartridges.

Re: DI Resin Expiring Quickly

Hi Scott - color change in the top half of a DI cartridge (rather than from the bottom up, is indicative of a cartirdge that was not packed tightly with resin. The cation and anion beads in the resin bed separated when the bed was fluidized.

The cartridge should still work OK, especially because it is new.

However - we'll send you a mixed bed resin refill - pack the resin in the cartridge as tight as possible.

Russ

Re: DI Resin Expiring Quickly

Hi Russ,

The top 3" of the cartridge has already changed colors, the rest is still dark. I think you are correct though as when I shake the unit a little, I can actually see that light colored resin moving, so it isn't tight in there.

When I repack the cartridge with the new resin, should I remove all of the resin that's in the cartridge now and start over?

No, that resin is still good

Re: DI Resin Expiring Quickly

Thanks Russ. Got the new resin and the DI cartridge appears to be working good.
