    We might be having babies...

Hey we noticed our B. Cardinals doing the mating dance a few days ago. Now the males mouth is now looking larger. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to hatch and be released?

I don't expect them to survive but is there anything that we can do?

This is a pair from ORA.

Re: We might be having babies...

23-28 days from the time thatpoppa scoops up the eggs. I used to breed banggai back in the mid to late 90s. I had an article published in FAMA, that has somewhat of an interesting story behind it.

The great thing about raising banggai is the fry are easy to feed. They are able to accept baby brine as soon as poppa releases them (or they escape ). No need for rotifers and greenwater. The babies are also cute unlike clownfish larva.

There is a great possibility that you could easily raise 20-30 of them. I used to let them breed in my 180. The male would always release in his end of the tank shortly after lights out. The bebies would congrigate in the corner, I used a turkey baster to suck them up like a slurp gun. Sometimes I would also use a small net. They are pretty stupid at that age and easy to snag.

    Good luck!

Fishreeks, that male is holding. Rod seems to have a good idea on catching them.

Baby Bangaii stick to urchins. They stay inbetween the spines. I don't remember if you have an urchin, but here is a link for a good surrogate urchin.yet another use for the $3 soapdish - Nano-Reef.com Forums

Andrea - I have been traveling for the past week and finally had a chance to look at my tank yesterday. My male's mouth looks exactly like yours and he didn't eat a thing with I fed the tank yesterday!

I just read that link for the fake urchin! I might pull my Radiant Wrasse out of my fuge and try and place them in that with a fake urchin ... that is if I can catch any of them! Not sure when this all started so it will be a hit or miss on the dates this time around! Good luck to you and keep us posted!
