The bath tub test went great..It throws out some great flow and the elbow is on a threaded fitting so I ccan tweak the direction. This will complement my Tunze 6080 (2) and my 6060 (1)

Are you going to use a small powerhead to feed it or are you going to split a sump return line to remove the powerhead from the tank?

I love the thought of a surge device but everyone I have seen in action releases a bunch of air bubbles when they surge. If it is only surging every couple of minutes and the surge is for less than 10 seconds, it's not too bad but I sure hate a bunch of bubbles in the display. I am sure it was hard to see (if not impossible) but did you see any bubbles during your test?

No real bubbles in the tub. There is a way to stop that..I have read it somewhere

Thumbs up

Check this out, yours looks a lot like the Borneman surge device:

http://www.petsforum.com/personal/tr...ge_device.html

Check it out, it has some good input there. For example check out the 'float riser'. It's necessary as the float sometimes gets caught on the flapper.
I made mine after those plans, works nice.
How much is the Fluidmaster 507 flush valve over there? A friend brought me one from Australia, was not cheap at all (I paid US$ 30 vs. US$ 8 that it costs in USA?).
Then I saw on it that it's 'Made in Mexico'

Hi, I have never done a surge device or seen one in action. Can someone post pics of "where it sits in the canopy" and just the basic action?

I'm thinking it just collects enough water and then works like a toilet system, whre all the water gets dumped all at once.

Thanks,

Here you go, very similar in setup, it will give you a good idea:

you can see pics and even videos of the system in action over there. The video you want to download first is:

Yup. Actually it uses a toilet flush valve (Fluidmaster 507, also see link above) :

You don't have to use the Fluidmaster flush valve I don't think, if anyone is tight on cash go to Home Depot and by a cheaper flush valve, Fluidmaster also must make a cheaper flush valve, I am a former plumber and I am almost positive I remember seeing cheaper flush valves made by Fluidmaster.
