Lately, Plywood tanks interest me. So I'm tagging along for the details. ;;

Okay here are some details,
The tank is made from 1inch CD structual grade ply glued and screwed as per GARF specs. Bracing i have cut a top rim 3 inches wide out of a full sheet ( you waste a lot of the sheet but i will use it for my sump) glued and screwed at 2inches apart , with two 3/8 threaded rods running from front to back concealed in an aluminium tube evenly spaced apart.I have drilled a hole through the middle of the rim for the rod to run through,where the rod exits the rim i have run a piece of aluminium approx 3ft long so when tightening the rod it does not pull into the ply as you might be able to see in the photos.
Then i drilled all my holes for my inlets/outlets and routed a 1/2inch channel in the base and side and rear for my weir walls most likely to be a mirror type Acrylic.Then i used a epoxy based filler forany imperfections
sanded then coated with a flexible chlorinated rubber product from swiftvalc , three coats will be sufficient i hope.The front ply panel has a rim which 3 1/2 inches wide top and sides and the bottom rim is 3 inches wide , i am going to use 15mm starfire glass for the front just siliconed against the rim.As for the rest of the running gear i will post as i go but here are some plumbing plans i toying with the idea of returning my ref through the weir wall as you can see. ;;
Sorry the plumbing plan is to large to post but you can see it here,

Sealing with Chlorinated Rubber
hmm---explain this please
Hi ,
Its a single pack epoxy basicly its flexable,it has a great UV stability and it is used for portable water tanks.![]()
G'Day,
I have a question i came across some lighting setups but the only prob is they are 1000w HPS the label on top of the control gear says for 1000w American HPS lamps, what i was wondering can i get away with using MHs lamps with the HPS control gear.![]()
Thanks ,
Darrell.
If you guys are interested in building a wood tank, this site is a must see. This site has waterproofing products that ensures a lifetime flexible seal that can't crack, blister, peel, or ever fail. That means no epoxy. Freedom to build a tank out of anything. A TV for instance, anything.

Check it out!
I've been considering Herco neoprene coating people have been using it in koi ponds. http://www.hechtrubber.com/pond.htm any thoughts?
Tom
tvan,
I realy would not suggest it if you have a concrete pond. If you read twards the bottom of that link you posted, you will find that it stated "you will have a long lasting liner". www.sanitred.com offer a LIFE TIME Warranty for all their applications and they are not a roll on liner, they are bonded to the substrate and hold back any negative hydrostatic pressure (ground water pressure trying to push in).
You should call them at that neopreme company and ask them if their product holds back "negative hydrostacic pressure". They can't, because if they could, they would be waterproofing basements, multi million gal. underground tanks, pools, water treatment plants, etc..... Because not only are you trying to keep water in your pond, you don't want your coating to delaminate.
How many times have you seen pool paints bubble up, chip, peel, crack, so on and so on? It would be a mess! Drain the pond, collect the fish, how do I remove this neopreme?, now I want to do it right.
I checked and compaired prices. They need 4 coats @ like only 100 to 150 square ft. per gal. coverage and they are more expensive per gal. Sani-Tred's products cover 240 square ft. per gal. and you only need 2 coats less expensive and better.
Just my opinion.
Hey All ,
Still going strong on my tank but due to home reno's ( to keep the wife happy) the tank construction has slowed down , but soon to be revieved will post more pics as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Darrell.
How is the tank coming along? Any new pics or updates?
I too look forward to your next update as I'm making plans to build come January.
