Rocky,
Remember innovators are measured by their reslove. One foot in front of the other and you'll be there, a beer in one hand and a secale in the other(and a buyout offer from docters foster and smith).

P.S.

Rocky,

Are you going to use a heat exchanger like you were talking about are just pump the saltwater thru the UG loop?

Thanx for all the kind words everyone

Hi Matt,
I will have atleast one system w/ a heat exchanger and more than likely it will be a fairly large system. Im thinking either a 300g rubermaid or a 600g until I see how that works I probably wont invest alot into them.

PS. you have PM

Idea for heat exchanger real simple

I am planning a greenhouse and was trying to figure out a way to cool in the summer and was thinking about a under ground loop. the trouble is an exchanger that is worth a damn. so here is my idea instead of looping the salt water through tubing in a tub of fresh water i propose a sump with a divider that is made of titanium. i did some searching and found that titanium sheet metal 12 by 12 at .02 inches can be bought for 30 bucks this would need to be reinforced incase of water loss on one side of the sump or the other maybe with a sheet of drilled plexi on both sides of the titanium. this will allow the salt to be almost in contact with the fresh water.

Thanx alot!
I cant wait to see my progress either....hehe especially because its been slow. Im now starting to rebound somewhat on my finances but of course no time to commit to the GH yet. Bought a boatload of 4" thinwall pvc and Matt has graciously offered to help out with the excavating equip. I need . There will be lots of pictures but it will probably be atleast 1-2 weeks until I start doing some major work to the GH.

Jeff
Yo bro! Im probably gonna order a bunch of LR within the next 3 weeks.
you tried feeding a bunch of hungry peppermints or a CBB yet? Right now im trying to finalize a deal with 100 - 20g longs for dirt cheap I know im gonna use them as quarantine tanks and maybe species tanks.

Smaug,
Yeahhhh! Im digging this idea...do you have a diagram or schematic? Would love to see a detailed layout

Zacrifice,
Thanx man I appreciate it.

give you a hand on the GH or whatever you need ...
or the standing offer to dive is still standing, now it's just
standing 24/7 till further notice

Ok I finally got the new top on, and you will notice the one thing I did do different with this greenhouse is before I put the top on I put approximately 20% shadecloth over the whole greenhouse, I do feel shading the whole greenhouse will be more effecient and I wont have those sloppy shadecloths in the way of the tanks like in the first thread :-)

Good luck with the new and bigger setup.

iI've never seen a system like this before, igood job sofar!!!!

re thought my heat exchanger

Instead of a titanium plate how about 1/2 inch titanium or high grade stainless steel bolts maybe one per sqr inch. or if you can find all thread of suitable material, then have it stick out in the freash water and into the saltwater. http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/...exchanger2.jpg

As some of you know (that have read my 1st thread ) I have purchased 2.5 acres out in the country, the lot already had a greenhouse on location with some sweat equidity. The size of the new greenhouse is 20'x50' so this is almost twice as big as the first one. Here is my layout for the greenhouse (actually this layout is 20'x40' cuz the first 10' will be for my orchids) I need everyones help on a few things

  • Layout design?
  • Spacing? There is atleast 2' between tanks/walls except the large LR vat and SPS/Clam tanks there is 18"
  • I plan on concreting the whole floor to the GH (Greenhouse) and want all tanks/vats holding water to be on level ground but I want the rest of the concreted area to be pitched to a couple of drains, Ideas on how to pitch the concrete when I lay it?
  • The SPS/Clam and large LR vat system will be covered in 10-30% shade cloth?
  • The remainder of the greenhouse will be covered in 40-60% shadecloth?
  • Each SYS (system) will have a seperate underground radiator for thermal cooling/heating.
  • Im thinking of plumbing the Large LR vat and SPS and Clam systems together? if so should I even use a u/ground geo therm? Im thinking with such a large volume I might not need as much cooling?
  • All critiquing accepted......especially the ones who have followed me along on the other thread

Here is an itemization of all the systems/vats

SPS System - White Fiberglass raceway 8'2" long 26" wide 12" deep 110gallons
Clam System - White Fiberglass raceway 8'2" long 26" wide 12" deep 110gallons
Mushroom Sys. - White Fiberglass raceway 7' long 3' wide 16" deep 140gallons
Zoos Sys. - White Fiberglass raceway 7' long 3' wide 16" deep 140gallons
Leather Sys. - White Fiberglass raceway 7' long 3' wide 16" deep 140gallons
Other softy Sys. - White Fiberglass raceway 7' long 3' wide 16" deep 140gallons
Invert Sys - Undecided still...Probably acrylic DIY w/many sections/baffles? 5'x3'
Fish Sys - Undecided still...Probably acrylic DIY w/many sections/baffles? 5'x3'
SPS Frags 4sale - Glass 6' long 3'wide 18" Deep 200gallons
Soft Frags 4sale - Glass 6' long 3'wide 18" Deep 200gallons
1000g LR vat - Blue swimming pool (like rubbermaid brutes but blue)
600g LR vat - Blue swimming pool (like rubbermaid brutes but blue)
300g Quarantine system - Rubbermaid brute, im planning no LR, or LS with UV Sterilizer on this system, maybe some racks

Cool setup...

This make's my soon to be new tank a baby compared to your's , hehe

but i do have 2 aga's in the garage that i was using for a marine setup about 15 years ago... dont know if i'll use them as yet, i'll have to wait and see how my nano turns out...

regards from Nanite..(Australia)
