Cedar as canopy material?
I'm about to start building a canopy for a 112g (72x18x22) that will house two 250W HQI's, one 400W Iwasaki, and two 6' actinics. I would like to use cedar - has anyone tried it for canopy construction?
Thanks, Kevin. |

I've never tried it personally, but I don't think it really matters. Any wood will have to be sealed, then sealed again, then sealed some more. So whatever you choose for aesthetics (sp?) should be fine!!!

Yeah im with mike...use whatever you want. I havent used cedar before either cuz pine was always cheap so I used it. and one canopy I didnt even seal it and it was good for a year but after a year it started to warp. I would use wood glue on all seams then I would stain/paint to your liking then seal it with some kind of weatherproof clear coat. Just make sure you ventilate that canopy real good away from the tank for days I had a freind lose a bunch of corals from paint fumes. Good Luck!
