My 1st calcium reactor

I finally finished my 1st reactor. The 2 chambers w/ plumbing cost about $100 and the 5 lb cco2 tank, reg and needle valve cost about $100. let me know what you think.

Hi Hystrix and Welcome to Reefland!

That reactor looks great, what plans did you work from?

Thumbs up Very nice work hystrix!

Just curious did you use acrylic or clear PVC for your chambers?

Doesn't acrylic cost significantly less than clear PVC?

Sorry, I believe it is the other way around, PVC is cheaper and has a pale blue color, where as acrylic costs more but is very clear.

Did you make your own bubble counter or buy it pre made.

Regards,
Kevin

I think Islandreefer is right here Scott....Atleast from what I have heard.

Hystrix,

I really like the design, any chance you can give us a little more input on how you built it and parts where to get them. The tops of the chambers where you have the 1/4" line going in those wingnut looking fittings are very interesting looking.

I made it from extruded acrylic from us plastics. The acrylic was cheaper than clear plastic. (prices compared between usplastics and Savco). The bubble counter was a freebee from Geo. I have more pipe and plan to make more or other things like a skimmer. My next project is converting a quicksand filter into a mini ca reactor.

assembly

A quick rundown on assembly
All of the pvc parts I got from lowels and home depot, I will list them later when I get a chance. The acrylic from us plastics. The needle valve from marine depot. The Regulator from the beverage factory. jaco and john guest fittings from aquatic eco and savco plumbing. The black expansion plugs are from aquatic eco. the shaft are hollow so I just drilled and tapped them. The pump was bought off ebay.
