created light
i did a 52 watt hood for my 20 gallon tank. its no the long one. i'm giong to take about 5 inch from the back to make my refuge. and i just wanndering with this llight what can i put in the veiwable area of my tank? it is 24 wide 18 high and 8 inch in width. beside fish and LR.

Boy... I would say we need more details, HOW did you get 52 Watts? What bulbs, color, type, etc. ???

i got two 2 x 13watt kit from ahsupply with 4 10000K/Dark Blue 03 Combo 13watt bulbs have a GX23 base (two pins). so what u think

That sounds pretty good, I think you can do most softies and some LPS like Hammer, Blasto, Frogspawn...

thank you for the quick reply. i have a quetion on lighting my refuge. what would u recommend? just a regular 10000k whit or wieht the dark blue. because i got a spare lighting from my desk limp that have the same light bulb on it can i use that for my lighting of my refuge? or can i just go with out light? what is a LSP? can i have anemone. in my tank?

I light my fuge with regular NO plant grow lights in a shop light fixture. LPS are Large Polyp Stoney... Things like Hammer Coral, Frogspawn, Bubble Corals..
As far as a anemone goes, I would say no. Ask Zhenya about Anemone's in a reef tank.. ![]() |

It is not the WATTS per GALLON thing, that formula is rediculous because it does not take into account the shape of the tank. Take this as an example, the intesity of light at the bottom of a 20 long will be greater then the intensity at the bottom of your 20 tall.... Simply because the light is farther from the bottom. But in a "watts per gallon" formula, both tanks require the same.
Anemone's do need a TON of light, just like clams and SPS, so they are best kept under MH, or T5. Look at this example from Minh's tank. Click me |
