I don't know squat about making a skimmer but am wondering why you would have the powerhead sucking water through the skimmer versus pushing water through it?

the idea was when the powerhead suck the water the water level will want to lower with the output of water and with there being the intake hole water would be push in. this is what i think. i don't want two power heads one for intake and outtake. but if anyone think i should do with two powerheads?
so would you think it be ok? or would there be a better way |

In that design you powerhead will pull the bubbles from the airstone out of the chamber and into your tank. Look at some of the Euro Reef skimmers they use a single powerhead to PUSH water into the chamber and the air Intake is on the inlet side of the powerhead, so the bubbles pass throught the impellar and get all "chopped" up. I would reverse your design, remove the airstone and put a 90 l so that there is only 1/4" or so between the bottom of the l and bottom of the chamber. Put the inlet from the pump about 25% up from the bottom of the chamber. This way water is swirling around inside and the only way out is at the VERY BOttom, where the bubbles are least likely to be.

Very nice picture. so what you are saying is take the airstone out and push the air into the intake of the water. the only thing im worry about is the out take of the water. will their be enough pressure to push the water out or will it flow over the water level of the waterline of the sump? so don't put the powerhead on the output of water right?

Yes, but you may have to rasie or lower the reaction chamber to adjust the level in the skimmer versus the level in the sump. so don't put the powerhead on the output of water right? Correct, there is no need for one on both sides |
