Skimmer Mods

Hi Just thought i would share a few pics of my skimmer that has been up and running for a week .Basiclly its a downdraught skimmer design that i made about 3 years ago it never really run as good as i wanted so i upgraded to venturi style skimmer straight away. So it sat for a long time and i figured only recently what could i do to make it work so i made a new collection cup that worked unlike the previous model .The cup opening was to large on the previous design and the pump i employed to run it was far to small only 5000 litres a hour .So i bought a external pump to run above my sump that was rated at 10,000 litres a hour. The secret to a downdraught skimmers is a very large pump thats why they are unpopular when a good skimmer can run on far less.

Well after a week i couldnt believe how good this thing works its unbelievable ime getting about 3cms of good skimmate in the cup daily within a week i filled a middie glass. The stench that comes of this skimmate is rancid it smells like roadkill . I am extremely pleased with the outcome and in a way find it hard to believe that any other skimmer could even come close to this monster if it did it would be a awesome skimmer. Pepsi challenge you here ime down with it .Show me a week of your skimmate and well see if it comes close.

Mia
