    my sump/refugium looking for comments

check out my DIY sump /refugium

please check out my sump/refugium and let me know if it is ok or if i should change anything. nothing is to scale. also after the last baffle i put a heater in and i am going to have a 2" space at the bottom for water to go into the refugium with a small box built around it so i can have a deep sandbed and no sand gets into the plenum.

    Looks good...

Question: Where will the water go if the MR1 can't keep up with the overflow rate? Does it go into the Refuge or to the heater side?

If it goes to the refuge side, a lot of water will bypass the heater.

I think you should dimplify this a bit. First of all, the skimmer is a problem because the output for the skimmer is only a couple of inches from the bottom of it.

You should simply let water flow in as it is now; over the first baffle into the refugium, over the next (which should be about 1" lower than the first), under, over, under and then over into the last compartment which contains the return pump.

Scott if i understand you right, the skimmer will be on a stand so it is up higher. i forgot to put this in my drawing. Also the output from the skimmer travels about 18 inches and then dumps into the baffels.

after the water flows through the baffels it will flow into the refugium from the bottom. that is why i will build a small open toped box so the DSB wont slide back into the plenum. as the refugium fills and gets high enought it will overflow into the return pump aera via tooth cuts in that last piece of acrylic.

Just out of curiousity, why implement a plenum with the use of a DSB?
